Kits or ready made. How much did they cost you? What are the best bang for buck clones, at least until Scott_F Amps Inc. begins production.

I've never made one myself, but as you might be thinking, I'm definetely gonna hit Scott up towards the end of the year for a JTM45 clone, I'll just say, the price he told me it should cost was awesome for what he was making, awesome.

how much headroom does a JTM45 have?........ i love Fender Bassman reissue 4x10s.....and the JTM45 and the bassman are probably fairly close in sound....but i want the head with the 2x12 cab, i like the bass characteristics better in 2x12 than 4x10

Do the Fender Brown amps have some similarities with the JTM45?

I was asking the same amp query on the FDP forum that I have asked here. It was suggested that I look at Fender Brown amps, Victoria amps (I wish) and the JTM45 or clones. I don't think that I want the really clean sound. I want some clean head room.

I want an amp that produces great cutting crunch that cleans up with rolling back the volume. I want to be able to play clean, but the dirty tonal character of the amp is more important to me. Is the JTM45 or clone the answer?

the first marshall amps (Jtm45 is among them, i think?) were almost exact copies of the 1959 fender tweed bassman 4x10 circuit......the glaring difference being the difference in output tubes, 6l6 and El34...... and there are a few other minor differences that do account for some tone change though..... but overall, they are very similar amps

Flank, I think the first JTMs actually used KT66s for the power tubes if im not mistaken, then i think they switched to 5881s later?

I think im looking for pretty much the same type of amp as you Toad, something that can be clean, but has a very nice bluesy overdrive, just listen to Clapton in Cream or the Bluesbreakers, if you want that overdrived tone, the JTM45 is IT. I played the Bluesbreakr combo in GC recently, im just sold on the JTM45.

ha, i just read on the MArshall site that the first run of JTm45s were either 5881 or 6l6 tubes lol...... that means the first ones were even closer to the 59 bassman

but your right, the famous sound is from the KT66 tubes in the JTM45s

Check out Rockaforte amps; good stuff.

Oh, and Blockhead amps, too.

Ben Fargen NAILS the JTM45 tone with one of his creations. I have the first dual channel amp he designed, the Epic 30 DC. The first side is a JMI-era Vox AC-30 and the second channel is a straight up Marshall JTM-45. It cost me 2 grand, but it was worth every cent because both sides sound dead on and there is no compromise that I can hear of.
