Hello all.
I recently acquired an Epiphone Emperor full hollow body. It's a beautiful guitar that sounds great unplugged (thanks to the spruce top), but has the stock electronics.
My plans for this guitar include a set of locking Grovers, a gold plated Bigsby (to rplace the trapeze tailpiece)500k pots, Orange Drop caps, a new bridge and nut, and the gold plated Phat Cats that I crrently have in my Epi Sheraton.
This leaves me wondering what I should put in the Sheraton. I have a set of Seth's in a drawer that I had in the Sheraton before. They sounded great, but I was wondering if I should try something different.
My benchmark tones for a 335 style axe are Larry Carlton's tones on quot;Kid Charlamagnequot; and quot;Room 335quot;, Clapton's tone on quot;Badgequot;, and the dirty tones on a lot pf Foo Fighter recordings.
I was thinking of the following:
1. Keep the Seth's
2. 59 set
3. Pearly Gates set
4. APH set
5. Jazz set
6. Fralin's PAF replicas
If y'all have any other ideas, please feel free to comment. Thanks a bunch, gentlemen.
Keep the Phat Cat in the neck, but take about 1,000 turns off the coil so it's in the neighborhood of 7.0k. You will not regret it...
The Seths are tough to beat in a semi-hollow. I have them in my ES-137, and they're staying. I would recommend using what you already have on hand for the Sheraton -- especially since we're talking Seths here -- at least until you're sure that the Phat Cats are right in the new guitar.
I vote for 59s, just cos I have one and it sounds super dooper. Not familiar with the tones u mention, mind, but the clean sounds y bridge pup puts out are lurrrrvly.

Agreed all around .
I think the Seths will sound great, as will the Phat Cats.
Try what you have amp; if it doesn't work, at least you're not put out anything.
I've actually got a set of Pearly Gates amp; a '59 neck I have no immediate plans for.
If you wanna try them out, I'll ship them to ya'...if they don't work out, send them back.

I'll be putting the Seth's in tomorrow.
I know they'll sound great, I was just wondering if there was anythin better out there for the tones I'm looking for.
Puckboy, about the Pearly's; Would you be interested in selling the bridge model? I had on in my LP that I replaced with a JB. The PGb went in the neck slot of my Carvin and sounds spectacular there, and since I'm not too keen on the JB, I need a replacement PG for my Lester.
BTW, what's the DC readingon that PGb?
Thanks a bunch for all your help, gentlemen.
