I've never done a magnet swap,
so I was thinking of putting SH-5b magnet in a SH-10n
I looked here:
from : localhost/doesn't look complicated
I have an extra SH-5 but not an extra SH-10
If anyone has done this already, let me know
Any feedback of what it might sound like is apprieciated
I think you would end up with one helaciously shrill sounding pickup.
I sort of disagree, I think you would end up with a Custom with allen poles! I have done A B comparisions with the Custom 5 and the Full Shred and they sound alot alike IMO. Wouldnt doubt if they have the exact same coils! I have also done pole swaps. Based on these experiments, the Full Shred sounds like a C5 with allen poles. Also, I consider the C5 to be alot more shrill than the Custom (A5 vs. ceramic magnet). I think it would be a worth while experiment to do and I am very curious as to how it turns out. I think it might sound really cool!I didnt see the part about it being in the neck position! I was thinking it was going to be in the bridge position!
Probably more bass, less mids and sizzling highs.

so you think the increased output would effect the high too much,
the SH-10 high is rated 8
Keep in mind this will be paired with a SH-8
I love a bright pickup in the neck spot ~ Give it a try!!!
Rock On ~
It should have about the same difference in EQ the Custom and the Custom 5 have or so!

That's what I was thinking.

Maybe I should just put the SH-5b in the neck,
and see what that sounds like.
I doubt it will sound like a SH-10 with a ceramic.

I doubt it will sound like a SH-10 with a ceramic. You are correct! Please read my posts more carefully! The Custom will not sound like the SH-10B becasue of the hex poles! You were reffering to the neck position Full Shred anyway right? The neck position FS is a whole nother animal! I was talking about the difference or simularities between the Custom BRIDGE and the FULL SHRED BRIDGE!
BTW, the Custom in the neck is not a good idea!

You were talking about swapping the A5 magnet in the full Shred neck for a ceramic one correct???? I said, it should have the same difference in EQ between the Custom 5 and the Custom. Reason I said that is, the Custom has a Ceramic magnet and the C5 has an alnico 5 so, it should be the same kind of differences!!!!!!! I will do the quot;hardquot; part for ya.
The C5 EQ is 6/3/8 A5 magnet
The Custom EQ is 7/6/9 Ceramic magnet
The Ceramic magnet should give you more mids and a hair more treble and bass.
You understand what I was getting at now?
Might actually sound good in a Full Shred neck. I actually like it stock but it may give it the right kind of tweak with the ceramic boosting the mids. The tradeoff may not be worth it, if it turns the FS neck too sterile sounding.
Personally I think the FS neck is a bit on the sterile side so, I am actually thinking the ceramic in it might make it a killer pickup!
For a Full Shred bridge with Ceramic magnet, just wait a week or so...

Looks like you understand what I'm getting at now,
this is the EQ chart I'm using.

It's already sterile, that's not the question,
I just want to boost it...
So I don't hear the switch as much between pups.

We're talking about a Full Shred neck pup.

That's what I was thinking,
I thought someone would have tried it by now.
I'm going to try a SH-6n with the SH-8b
The SH-6N, thats one of Duncans best kept secrets IMO!
BTW, I am pretty sure Peirre is going to try the ceramic mag in the Bridge version of the FS.
That looks pretty cool,Flesh. What do you use you're AnaMan DS-1 Pro for? I have one and I also have a GT Soul-O-75 amp that gets about as dirty as a JCM 900. I'd like to set my amp at an ACDCish type gain and use the DS-1 to kick it in to Rhoads/Ride the lightning'ish overdrive settings. Do you have any recommended settings? thanks
