I've just been to a guitar shop 5 minutes away from our flat. Right there, to my joy was a 999 pounds second hand SL1 with a sustainer system. Eerie Dress Swirl. Basically, THE guitar I want for when I play better. At a great price. Despite the drool softly dribbling off my mouth, I managed to ask to try it out, along with a Laney LC15R and a Vox Bulldog pedal I wanted to try for a while. Well it was strung with .009s and as such, didn't play to its best and had a little buzz. I'm confident that with a slightly lower nut (main problem with Floyd nuts, they're usually too high ) and some .11s, it'd be a killer player! But even as so... WOW! The painted neck didn't feel sticky at all. The frets were flawless, it had a proper amount of relief. The Floyd pro was well set up. The DIMarzio pickups sounded pretty darn good and the sustainer system is cool as hell. All for 999 pounds!!!! Should I take out a student loan to grab this once in a lifetime opportunity?
Anyone aware of non CS SL1s with a stock sustainer? (it had the battery box at the back, but no Custom Shop inscription at all. I didn't memorize the serial number)

Sounds like an aftermarket thing if the guitar doesn't have the Custom Shop logo on the headstock.

I'm not aware of any with a stock sustainer. They also don't come stock with dimarzios. Sounds like it was all installed by whomever owned it before. 999 pounds(isn't that like 1700 USD?) sounds a bit high to me but I have no idea what they usually go for over there and they are of course much cheaper here. Its all worth it though for one of the best guitars ever!

That's fairly low for the UK. SL1 and 2 sell for at least 1,500 I believe.
This had the battery box at the back. Which means that the sustainer was stock indeed, or that it had another preamp or similar system with a battery.

I'm not a big fan of buying things at loan myself, at least none I can't pay off easilly. I would have the store properly set it up for you, play it again and ask yourself if your really want it that bad.

There's only one way to be sure and that's to check out the serial number on the Jackson site. Also ask if it's second hand. Your questions regarding the history of that axe can be answered much better by the store employees. If it's modded the guitar won't obviously be worth as much. By the way, you should check out ebay.de (germany) they always have a couple of USA Jacksons for really good prices (in Europe) and you won't have to pay additional taxes.

It is second hand for sure, and I'm quite just curious about what it is. A non custom SL1 with a sustainer is quite weird, I thought I'd ask here as well. I won't risk a loan for it. But damn she's beautiful. The store knew nothing either haha

Look at the serial number. Any neck-thru custom shop Jackson will have a four-digit serial number starting with J. A production USA model will have a five-digit serial starting with U. A six-digit serial with no letter indicates early 90s Japanese production.

It is a USA one, it's written on the headstock and has the matching serial number, I checked. But I didn't memorize it

quot;Custom Shopquot; logo is an option on CS axes, by defauilt it´s not applied.

Dystrust is right on the Numbers, save Custom Rhoads models which carry quot;RRquot; numbers (production ones also carry U0 serials..)....BTW, I´ll PM you soon, sorry to keep you waiting so long... I would definitely want to know the actual number and ideally see pics..... While Jackson makes their own sustainer that they use in the PC-1 and it´s available as a CS option, it´s also freakin expensive and quite uncommon....

I'll most likely get back there today to show my nut to their guitar tech. I'll take care of the serial number but no pics I'm affraid.

ROFL! sorry couldnt resist.

LMAO and I thought I heard it all, I didn't even see when I did that darn thing :roflmao: I'll leave it like that just for the sake of it.

a separate batery compartment? on a production guitar? i have never heard about something like that before. didnt even know jackson offered their sustainer system on production axes either (apart of the dk2 for all i know)

serial number and try to ask the folks on the JCF

I asked on the JCF, I got no concrete replies yet. I'll go get the serial number right now.

Nice sig

Not a CS. Serial = U02426.
The battery box was routed for and the switches smeared a bit of glue on the paint. It's all aftermarket. 999 now seems a bit high for a guitar which has been permenantly tampered with.

AFAIK, the only Jackson that comes stock with a sustainer system is the DK-2S. I almost bought one, but reconsidered, seeing as I've come to hate that pointy-Strat deal.
