I've got a planet waves humidifier, and the case is equipped with a hygrometer. Now that it's winter, the humidity is usually around 30%. I've heard it should be near 50% for the guitar, but I don't think I can get it up that high?
Will 30% damage my guitar? What are some tips on keeping it well humidified during the winter.
I would say keep the guitar in warm place and use a humidfier in that room.
I do keep it in a generally warm room, and have even bought a room humidifier recently. I still can't get the humidity above 30%.
Keep a slightly moist sponge in the case with the guitar. Monitor the humidity closely until you get a feel for how much of an effect it has.
Thanks, I'll give that a shot.
What are you getting the humidity reading for the room from?
For the room: A small hygrometer that came with the room humidifier we bought.
I tried the sponge, and it worked. The humidity in the case went up to about 60% overnight. I'll try to it again if the humidity gets too low, except I figure I'll moisten the sponge less.
