I had one that i traded and i liked most things about it but is there any way to get more vintage seth lover type twang out of it?
i understand that it is a 14K ceramic model but if i get another is there ANYTHING i can do to make it more classic PAF?
and pleae dont say trade it for a 59
I already have a 59 bridge and i actually love the tone but it does not have enough output.
so i guess what i am after is a middle of the road 59 bridge/ ceramic custom?
this would be GREAT to say the least!
C5???
This is what a lot of people seem to be looking for in the Duncan line...
I'd say to try out an Air Norton in the bridge, or a PAF Pro.
That, or shove a Ceramic magnet in that 59, it'll make it a bit more aggressive.

wouldn't that make the 59 too trebly and harsh?

Wicked are you kidding? this sounds dynamite!!!!
anyone have one here?
Probably the easiest and cheapest thing to do since you already have the pickup is to switch to an A5 magnet and see how you like it. It's an easy job to switch the magnet and the cost is around $5.00.

You don't even need to do that. Just buy a 59b and a Custom and do the surgery yourself, and slap in the magnet of your choice.

yeah i could handle that i think?
those wires are real fragile arent they?
I listen i have not actually heard this hybrid but it sounds like it would be what you want?
i mean half the tone will be 59b and the other custom?

I look for the same thing ; less windy than the custom and more mid than the C5 and i will try the Custom with an alnico 4 magnet in a few weeks .

what does the alnico 3 custom sound like?
It is near alnico2 with less power and mids , and a bit more bass and treebles .
An alnico 4 accentuate this again for the EQ curve but with more power than al2 but less than al5 and with more definition-articulation .

so it would have less output than the stock CC but more bass and treble?
where can i find a clip of the alnico 3 custom?

As long as you don't pull on them or jerk them around or use them to lift the whole pickup, it's not a problem. (But even then it's fixable.)
And I don't mean the whole main lead coming out of the baseplate -- you can pretty much swing the pickup over your head like a lasso with that.
I mean the leads coming directly out of the coils.
Why not add a switch that allows you to switch between having the coils in serial (normal) and parallel? The parallel mode with have less output and will be slightly brighter.
Parallel sucks.
No seriously, it's a little too weak and thin, much weaker than a vintage-style bucker. If you check it with a multimeter, it will read about 3.7k and will sound accordingly.
Some folks like the parallel sound but most find it lacking.

Don't know where you could find a clip but I have one in my ES-355. Compared to a stock CC (Alnico 2) I think the output is about the same but with a little more of both warmth and shimmer.
It might be what you're looking for.
These responses are funny. As soon as I saw the title, I thought, quot;Hybridquot;.
Good response, Wicked Lester.
