after 6 months and my SECOND Vox ad30vt on the fritz, i'm done with it. in the midst of wondering about a small tube amp, i found out after falling for the Peavey C30 that in my situation, strictly at home player, the volume necessary to get the get the tone to my liking would have me replacing windows in the house. i have listened to every clip i could find and both sound pretty good, but no dealers in my area carry either. also find the Marshall AVT 100 interesting and will probably be playing one later today. i just figure for only playing at home, i would still like to go this way rather than having a floorboard of pedals and busted ear drums from a tube amp (my ears are too old for that). anyone have either of these 3 or opinions on them i would appreciate some input.
I prefer the TM 60. It' analog and this is a bit warmer and smoother than the FlexTone. I LIKE the Flextone except I have found the Marshall models very poor. Perhaps with some tweaking they could sound better, as I've heard some decent clips over at HC of Line 6 Marshall models, but I couldn't find them when I've tried the Line 6 products. Most of the other models are pretty good however.
I haven't had much luck with the Valvetronix amps either, for reliability. I understand your pain.
The Marshall Valvestates are quot;ehhhhquot; IMO. They sound OK, but IMO are way overpriced for what they are. Def try before ya buy.
Trademark 60 in a Heartbeat! The Flextone is only have of what it says. It's flexible. Where's the tone? I mean, it's obviously not a bad sounding amp, but compared to the Tech 21, it's not natural sounding. The TM60 is a solid amp with lots of flexibility and good sounds. It also feels more like an amp, and less like a modeller (a la Flextone). I have some Line 6 gear, but if I didn't already have it, I would buy a Tech 21 amp to do what I do with my Line 6 stuff.
okay, i test drove the Marshall this evening. blah, nothing anymore special than the Vox IMO. just louder. actually i like the tones on the Vox better. i am kind of leaning to the Tech 21 for the simple fact that i tried the spider II before i bought the Vox, and it didn't hold up to the Vox then. i know the flextone is a different animal than the spider, but i did get that ''lifeless'' tones out of the spider, so by default and maybe unfairly i would lean toward the Tech 21. i may just have to buy one online, i'm not gonna drive 2 hrs to the nearest dealer, at least not anytime soon. hopefully the sound clips i found are fairly accurate because they are sweet.
Tech 21's are sweet!!! I preffer them to the ones mentioned.
