Hey....I really love the look of the Gibson Les Paul Customs but....they are just too damn expensive....are there any cheaper models or brands that have the same premise? With good pickups?
Orville...and I'm sure Edwards makes a LP Custom clone as well. Good quality from What I hear (never accually played one). They are only sold in Japan so most cost $125 to ship to the States.
I've owned a lot of Gibsons, and I currently own a custom shop LP custom, and IMO the best LP copy I've come across is the Agile. I bought a white one for my son for $250 shipped out-the-door. Best playing LP copy I've layed hands on right out of the box. FWIW I've also owned Epiphone, Ltd, and Tokai (my second choice). The Orvilles and Burnys are pretty nice, but they are harder to find and cost quite a bit (around $800 and more used).

Wow, that's a sexy white les paul . . . and you say it plays well . . . I have to find one of these Agile guitars to try out!

Unless you live in NJ or know someone who has one you won't be able to try it. Rondo Music is the exclusive dealer on these, in fact I'm pretty sure they have them made specifically for them and shipped from Korea. But at $250 to your door its kinda hard NOT to buy one.

That's quite an endorsement! I've been on the fence with those for a long time. How much does your son's guitar weight?

Friggin HEAVY!! I'd say that's the downside. No laminates here, it's solid wood for sure, but the cuts they use are pretty heavy.
And let me also ad in case there's any confusion. These are not rivals to Gibson, and they will not replace a real Les Paul. Don't think you're getting something of Gibson Les Paul caliber in these because you're not. But you are getting a fine copy and likey the best bang-for-buck new guitar out there.

Oh, definitely. I'm just looking for something inexpensive and decent that I wouldn't worry about (too much) if it got trashed or stolen.

Sounds like a good candidate for you then.
Check out Greco, Tokai and Burny. Great quality, IMO.
In the Custom type models I would have to say look at Edwards/ESP.
of the LP custom replicas have rosewood fretboards instead of
ebony.
The Edwards has a ebony board like a real LP Custom.BODY : Maple / Mahogany
NECK : Mahogany
FINGERBOARD : Ebony , 22frets
SCALE : 24.75 inch
JOINT : Set-Neck
PICKUPS : (R) SH-4
(F) SH-1n
CONTROL : 2 Volume , 2 Tone , Toggle-SW
BRIDGE : Tune-Matic , Stop Tailpiece
PRICE : 94,500yen (Include Tax)
The Edwards you can usually score for a better price than the Tokai(Japan models) or the Orvilles. Tokai and Orville are more known.
People are just starting to catch onto ESPs other lines of guitars that are not sold outside of Japan like the Edwards line.

KentThese are the closest I've seen due to the ebony fretboard which has a BIG impact on the tone of a Les Paul Custom vs a Standard.
where can i find these?????! And about how much do they run for?

The two Grecos I own are of the same caliber of the Gibsons I've been playing for the past 20 years while I was looking for quot;the onequot;.
Calling them quot;copiesquot; is understating the quality. They're really very much quot;clonesquot; more than anything.
I own a Gibson...it took me 20 years to finally find one that I quot;clickedquot; with. But I won't hesitate to openly state that the two Grecos smoke it 9 ways to Sunday.
Buy an Epiphone
Replace pickups
Replace Tuners
MMMM nice

I had the pleasure of going to Rondo to try out the Agile AL-3000 ($369) for my son. It took me all of 15 minutes to take the test drive and leave, guitar in hand. Excellent service and product QC. And yes they are MIK.
You won't be disappointed.
i want one of these...Mahogany (no maple top)
JB/'59
Earvana nut
Grover tuners
Yea baby!!!
Not exactly a Les Paul but i liked how a similar model played so once ive got the money, one of these will be mine
Those Edwards look nice, but word from owners of them on the ESP forums is that they're quality is about equal to that of Ltd. There were two recently on ebay and both were priced in the $700 range with $120 shipping from Japan (they are not imported to the states, are hard to find, and expensive for what you're getting).
If you want dead-on looks, then Korean made Tokais imported to music stores in Canada are nice and have the correct body and headstock shape, but again you'll be paying 2-3 times the price of the Agile.
