Does anyone know anything about B-52 amps, specifically the AT-100 head and matching cab.

the AT-100 can land you in the same ballpark as a recto, and it has plenty of gain on tap. i don't think it sounds quite as thick as a mesa, but it is a very, very good alternative if you don't feel like shelling out $1200 for a dual rectifier.
and it has decent cleans too.

as for the cabinet, i can't help you out there. the only cab i played that head through was some vintage-30 loaded cabinet that i wasn't really familiar with. but it sounded really good.

as for any of B-52's solid state amps...stay far, far away.

the B-52 sounds alike with a Mesa Recto? i mean it has a lot of gain, but as gainiac as a Recto?

I think when he said it can quot;get you in the ball parkquot; and quot;not quite as thick as a rectoquot;, he meant it's close, but not identical. Similar, but not the same.

oh, ok... do you own or have tried one of those?
how is the gain stage.

Thanks for the compliments! The AT-100 is my brainchild...I was the product development manager for that project!

Ive played them and am 100% impressed! Being relatively new, I worry about the long term reliability, but I hear they are well designed too. If I dont hear any negatives in this realm, this will be my next amp purchase. They sound great and have alot of usable tones. This is important to me as I am still trying to find my own tone.

Personally I think the B52 solid state amps sound as good or better than any of their peers. Certainly better than the SS stuff from Crate and Marshall currently...Peavey Transtube and Randall being more on the same level.
