I'm an avid Doobie Brother music listener(Have been since the 70s)....I bought the 2004 Doobie Brothers dvd quot;Live At the Wolfquot;....I Love Tom's tone, especially at the soloing at the end of quot;Clear As The Driven Snowquot;....I see every guitar player using Mesa 4x12 cabs, but I don't see any amps on stage behind Tom,Pat,or John?
Tom was a big user early on of the Mesa Mark 1 stuff because they were based out of California...Wondering if I'm still currently hearing the Mesa amp tone, but with a PRS now instead of the Gibson 335,SG,and Les Pauls he played in the 70s? He's a great guitar player with great tone and great chops....Very underated....
Anyone have any scoop on specifically Tom's amps?
Go out and get this DVD if you are a fan of the Doobie Brothers! It's excellent...
Myself and no one else knows either on this one? Bummer....
Wish I could help, John, but I don't know either. The Doobies and Steely Dan, (both featuring Jeff Baxter on lead guitar), are my two favorite bands.
I'll never forget when I saw them in Ohio, many moons ago. Jeff played the whole gig sitting in a basic dining-room-table chair, wearing headphones.
Pretty weird . . . but he played great.
