Currently I've got one gig-worthy guitar (Epi LP) and two pretty decent amps (Marshall JTM60 and Fender Prosonic)
I know I'm going to sell the Marshall as soon as I can find a buyer (just outgrown it/want something new) but I then I have the problem of what to do with the cash I have. Either I put it towards a Strat or a Bluesbreaker/Orange AD type amp. I can't decide!
I use quite a number of overdrive pedals (see sig.) although I don't know how well they get on with the Fender. Once I get a good run with it I'll know what sounds I'm short of with the Fender. It's new and I'm already having big problems so I haven't really had a chance to try them out. I guess I must have mortally sinned against the Gods of Rock in a previous life, or something. I've had no end of problems with the Marshall as well.
I'd be interested to know what people think generally as well. If you only had three pieces of kit would you go two guitars/one amp or two amps/one guitar?
I say two guitars, one amp. You can always color the sound with your pedals, but that second amp won't be able to change a broken string on the fly
2 amps. Strings could be changed pretty easily on a tune-o-matic, and you can easily play rhythm and chords with one string missing. The sound and possibilities of a 2 amp setup outweighs having two guitars, i think.
Strat.
2 guitars. You have so many different possibilities. My buddies strat plugged into an amp sounds utterly different than my Schecter at the exact same amp setting. Plus if you have 2 guitars you can mess around with pickup selection.
I'd definately say 2 guitars. Especially if it's a Les Paul and a Strat. Having a S-S-S guitar and a H-H guitar combo well offer you the whole spectrum more or less.
I might say amp, but you've got so many pedals there that distortion isn't a problem for you. I feel a strat (compared to a LP) would provide you with a broader range of sounds than a new amp.

Sitting around changing a string in the middle of the set is sort of a drag...
2 guitars and 1 amp!
I love strats, but I also love to have the tone from a great humbucker loaded mohogany axe, I think 2 guitars would be the best way to go with your set-up.
Rock On - kac
If I were u I would get the Orange then sell the fender amp and get a new guitar
Actually, 1 for JamesRock - that seems a good idea!! Orange cleans are pretty good, IMO.
