Are they good? What about them is good/bad? I need you guys to help me get al the info i can aboutt hem beofre I pick up a guitar with them in it (Faded V). Thanks again.

They're not bad at all. They come standard in the LP Classic, Explorer, amp; V. I liked the 500T in an Explorer I had, but replaced them with Duncans. The thing is, you can get exactly what you want with the wider range that SD offers. The Gibson standard pups are more generic. Go play a few Gibsons with the 496-500 combo and see what you think.

Basically, if you like the guitar, get it. Replacing the pups is no big thing, and like I said you so many more choices with Duncan.

Good luck,

Jeff

I wouldn't call them generic, but would rather say that Gibson doesn't offer as wide of a range of pickups as .

I'm personally not a fan of the 496 and 500. I tend to find them a tad too hot for my tastes and a bit harsh, which I think is primarily because of the ceramic mags.

quot;Genericquot; wasn't exactly the word I was going for, but was all I had on tap at the moment. The main point was that you have more choices with Duncan. However, Gibson is expanding a bit with the 'Burst Bucker series.

Get a Duncan Custom/59N. On this forum, it should be easy for you to find used Gibson pickups. Our junk drawers are full of them! haha

Honestly, if you go for Gibsons, find a guy who just pulled Burstbuckers out of his Les Paul, and pay half price for them. 500T's are harsh, and 498T's are a little better. Burstbuckers are the best from Gibson.

i didnt think the 500t was real harsh, i actually thought it was just really muddy. i replaced it with a JB- problem solved.

Same here. Its thick but Muddy. A Distortion tightens it up alot, but an A5 pup was my bread and butter.

I did not like the 500T that came in my SG-X at all. Too much trebble clean and distorted, but at the same time muddy in certain tones....weird. It felt weak (no quot;meatquot;) and way too shrill no matter what I did. I thought the 500T and the JB had similar qualities, but I have not done a side by side comparison.
