Just how much does putting in a matched pair of JJ's and a new speaker effect the tone of an amp? I'm not really pleased with the cleans on my Classic 30 (after the tubes get warmed up the OD rocks though) and was wondering if I should keep it until I can mod it a little. Or is the general consensus find an amp you love, then mod?
Other amps I would be considering would be:
Traynor YCV20
Fender Blues Junior
Crate Palomino V8 or V16
Crate V1512
Carvin Vintage 16
Just did a speaker upgrade to my 1960B, and it changed the tone a lot, for the better.
I'm planning on buying a classic 30 soon. I'm going to change the speaker probably and put in JJ's eventualy. I might just get an external speaker for it. What don't you like about the tone, I love that vintage rock sound it has. Its cleans are pretty unique to, kinda murky. Tell me what you think of yours
Haven't played a Classic 30, but a ceramic Weber Blue Dog in my Blues Jr. was the best upgrade ever in terms of tone/dollar!
New Electro Harmonix pre-amp tubes made the clean tone a lot clearer, and seemed to add some nice chime.
