I've been working on this neck I got at a Pawn shop, and I decided to Scallop the thing. I did a fret job already, my first and it wasn't to bad, but now I've been sanding on this for weeks and it seems that the levelness that the frets did have, is exactly that. Did Have! So what do I do now? It was sweet before I started the Scallop. What he hell Happened? I appreciate any advice Thanks

try using a rounded file for the top frets after taping over the frets so you dont screw them.

just hope your not the next scallopwned... good luck!

Allright, who's gonna post it? We can't have a thread on scalloping without the mandatory picture...I think we all know the pic I'm talking about.

How are you going about doing this? When you say that you've been sanding and the frets are no longer level, what exactly do you mean? The frets themselves don't get touched, it's the wood on the fretboard that gets removed so that there's a little dip.

SCALLOPWNEDThe problem is you did it quot;the wrong way aroundquot; (which is common when scalloping an existing neck), you did the frets and then scalloped. It should have been done after scalloping.

The problem is that the fingerboard is a structural part of the neck (the main reason heavy exotic woods are often used) in that part of it´s job is to counteract the string tension. By scalloping, it of course gets weakened, causing the neck to shift. On a good neck this is barely noticable....on a cheapo it can destroy the neck.

Straighten out the trussrod and re-dress the frets and you should be good to go if the neck survived

That's a thing i have done 8 years ago with my first strat, which was ruined almost a this time, but then it was ruined finally. It even still looked better than this.
It did work good for reasearching in wiring pickups, comparing humbuckers and single-coils, how to (not) route guitars, how to do it right and not right...
I did the same with a dozen of pickguards, which i have sold a gew weeks ago.
