i bought a new sd custom 5 bridge pup and it is neck spaced. 2 years ago i bought a custom custom bridge and it sat for a month before i installed and noticed this obvious problem. i am either returning the junk to internet dealer or dealing direct w/sd. why can't sd pup a bridge pup in a bridge pup box ? my les pauls will get proper bridge spacing for the bridge pup! anyone else out there with sore rectum over this ?

A, Use some grammar, for god's sake. I can barely understand you.

B, There's no such thing as 'neck spaced.' It's either Standard Spaced or Trem (F) Spaced. On a Les Paul, you want standard spaced pickups for both neck and bridge positions.

welcome to the forum.

i think you are mistaken about the spacing thing. the custom custom and custom 5 are available in both normal-spacing and trem-spacing. also, they are both bridge pickups. humbuckers for neck is available in normal spacing only.

that said, the normal spacing for both bridge and neck pickups are one and the same. they are made for non-tremolo guitars whereas the trem-spacing bridge humbuckers, aka trembuckers are spaced for a guitar with a tremolo.

in other words, the cc you have is a trembucker and the c5 is a normal-spaced humbucker.

on a sidenote, if you are using a les paul with the standard t-o-m bridge. you would want a normal/standard-spaced bridge humbucker. it has the same string-spacing as a neck humbucker.

factory pickups on my USA gibson lp custom are spaced neck (narrow) and bridge (wide). the sd custom 5 is narrow (as in gibson neck) spacing. the pup covers holes correspond to this as well. my bridge pup cover's holes are too wide for my c5's narrow neck spacing. does duncans trem spacing line up with gibsons bridge spacing. i though trem spacing was for floyd rose trems only ?

my gold bridge pup cover's holes are spaced too wide for the custom 5.

What you mean is the standard instead the trembucker spacing - and there i agree with you in one point:
This should be the standard spacing, and the standard should be something like quot;Gquot;-spacing.

But there is one problem:
The coils of the trembuckers are a bit wider, so the cover wouldn't fit in any case.

thanks dani, trembuckers are spaced like a gibson bridge pup. i always wondered if some of the lack of low end from the custom custom was due to me not having a trembucker version since they are said to provide more bass for trem guitars.

OK, I dug out a 57 Classic bridge and neck model pickup and a Jimmy Page neck model out of my pickup drawer. Instead of staring at one of my LPs bridge pickups spacing I instead dug out a tape measure. At the screws the outside spacing on all three pickups was 2.25quot;.

So, unless Gibson is using different spacings for the 489T that I am not aware of, Gibson and SD bridge position humbuckers have the same spacing.

All the SD pickups I have used in all three of my LPs have lined up just fine whether on Nashville or ABR-1 bridges. If you are looking for dead nuts center over each screw you'll need to get new saddles and re-slot them or re-slot your exsisting saddles. A Trem spaced HB will give you a slightly wider spread but that doesn't mean that the strings will hit the center of the screws.

Gibson sets the saddle slots by hand and they use a hard rubber mallet to quot;wackquot; the slots in the saddles which sometimes leaves the slots just a little off center. You can get a wider pickup or re-set your slots but either way you probably will notice no difference in tone.

on the contrary, the custom custom has more low mids and less bass than the c5. the c5 is the opposite. more bass and less low mids than the cc.
