Still love my VTX 120 head through the matching AD2X12 Vox cab...Great stuff! Any newer or current users of the line?

Please,do chime in!

I just bought the VTH 60 on EBay, supposed to be here Tuesday. I at one point swore off the modelling stuff, just very frustrated with my Flextone II. I did the trial on 2 of the smaller valvetronix models and they were better but too boxey sounding. Been looking at low wattage tube amps for some time, but got this for what I feel was a good price and took the bait again. I'm hoping the head and a decent cab will make up what I felt was lacking in the smaller combos.

OK, I need some help here as well, and was gonna start a thread anyway. The cab I currently have is a Bassman 2x12. When I got it some years ago, the original speakers were replaced with some Celestion G12 M70's. The Bassman head and cab (as best I can gather from the labeling) is early '65. This amp holds no magic for me and to be honest I have therefore not used it much at all in several years. It is likely to be up for sale before long.

So I'm soliciting opinions on

1) what would be good speakers in this cab for the Valvetronix (I am leaning towards the Vintage 30, G12H30 mix?)

2) are these current speakers just a total miss-match for the Bassman and part of why I can't find the mojo in this amp. If so what do you recommend?

3) Anybody using the VTH 60 with a 1x12 cab and if so what speaker?

Thanks!

Not to be a spoil sport, but I'm so glad I got away from the VT's. Very frustrating always having to tweak this and that...too sensitive. One day it would sound great, next day, no changes, it would sound like @$$.

With my new Rivera the tone is *there* every time I plug in. No tweaking unless I change guitars.

I guess I better just finally admit I am a tube snob

EDIT: Def go with the VOX cabinet and speakers. It is voiced to take into account the fact the models are based on an quot;entirequot; sound of an amp...power amp/pre-amp, speaker distortion, etc. It's a quot;neutralquot; sounding cab.

Jeff....Sorry to hear that, but this hasn't been the case at all with mine...You made a great choice in the Rivera though..

CC....I've ran my VT head through a Marshall V30 4x12 and it sounded great, but the 4x12 was a bit much to tote around...I then bought the matching AD 2X12 Vox cab with the Celestion Neo-Dog speakers...Great cab...The cab is punchy, articulate, loud, plenty of lows, not at all shrill sounding..

Some of my weird eq problems that I was having with some of my british presets were fixed when I went with this cab also..I was using a Boss GE7 in the effects loop, but have since gone away from it with the Vox cab...

I'm a 2x12 guy and I Like the fullness, plus my head is stereo and I need a stereo cab to keep the dimension I hear in the stereo field sounding right...

A V30 cab is hard to beat....Seems the V30s sound great in most everything..I also love the G12H-30 but a 1x12 cab with this speaker is going to put a strain on the G12H-30 with just 1 speaker....

An Avatar cab with 1 V30 and 1 G12H-30 would be great and also priced right?

The Vox AD 2X12 was a bit pricey, but it's worth the money and it's the match to the head...It's built with birch wood and is a well built cabinet...

I got my 60 watt combo a few weeks ago and I really like it, I got some very good sounds within a short time. I am still experimenting and come up with an interesting sound every time. The amp fits my needs very well at this point and I'm glad to have it. I may be asking your advise about different things about getting sounds, or the best way to do various things. I've read your posts regarding the amp and you obviously have a great deal of knowledge about it so watch out..

Contact me anytime and I'll be more than glad to help you along brother!

I have some great tones dialed in to mine and you're welcome to them also..

mine's just an AD30VT... but I've never had to tweak it. Sounds good pretty much no matter what the eq is... just needs fine adjustment. I have noticed the sound is a bit inconsistent day to day though...

I gotta try a vtx

Check your wall voltages and see if that varies? I don't have a problem with my 120VTX head with what you speak of? My amp just seems to continue to inspire consistently...Guess I'm lucky or have some cool stuff dialed in on mine?

yeah, the electronics in this house are kind of f*cked... it's no fault of the amps then. it sounds great. Not a matter of dialing it in, I barely need to.

I have had this problem as well, and it is due to fluctuations in my line voltage. That said, 99% of the time my amp is consistantly awsome! The only thing that gripes me is when I have to reboot the preamp after one of these power flucutations. It acts like Windows, sometimes you just have to reboot the machine to get it to work correctly. Unfortunatly I lose all of my presets when I do that. Guess that I will have to pickup on of those VC12 footswitches so I can externally store my presets.

yeah, that's just a bit annoying... the only thing I could ask for is a better preset switching system (more like my line6... never thought I'd say that )

I am looking into some of there products. I was watching a Big Head Todd and the Monsters concert DVD, and I noticed that he has one of the little VOX modelers on top of his amp, and I think some kind of Vox pedalboard, running into one of the newer gibson amps. All of his tones were great. Very tastefull. He was using a strat and a L.P. and was sounding great on both. I will be looking into at least the modeler here in the near future.

FWIW, The mono AD60VTH head, used, isn't very much more than the stand alone pedal and it's the exact same preamp. I got mine, 6 months old, off of ebay for $330. I'm assuming that you have some very nice cabs, looking at your gear list. So the head version may be better suited for you.

I never thought I'd love a modeling amp so much, but it's the perfect home practice rig.
I love tube amps, and use them at the rehearsal space or during the day at home, but I do most of my practicing at night in an apartment. The Vox AD60 head on either my Bogner or Marshall cab is a great setup. I'm spoiled by the tuner, and there's almost no sound I can't get out of the Vox amp.

Unfortunately, I screwed up my amp, and it's been in the shop for 6 weeks, and will probably be there another 3 weeks. It's driving me insane because I miss having it.
My neighbors really miss it, because I've been using my tube amps instead.

Can it squeal like a pig?

I know, I know........shut up smart ass........LOL!!!!
BTW, what did you do to your amp?

The VTH 60 showed up today, excellent condition, factory box, manuals, everything for 3 bills shipped. I only got about 45 minutes with it tonight so I haven't even gotten started exploring, gonna read through the manual shortly. If anybody wants to share any of their favorite settings, I'm lazy and always up for a short cut

haha...my old Moore is finally getting to play through a Vox...Sweeeet!!!

i really would like to get an avatar cab and one of those heads one of these days!....hook that up and have a couple other tube amps heads too...ROCK ON!!!

i have a vox valve it sounds great its just really lame having to play with it so much to get a sound...kinda lookin for a new amp though

Yep, if the guy who has it now just knew how to play, I bet it would sound pretty decent The trusty Strat Ultra has been relegated to the closet since I got the Moore, I love that guitar. Still intend to swap the JB for a CC or something, just haven't felt like messing with it yet, though. Oh ya, this is a Vox thread, sorry!
