hey guys, i just bought another DD last night and tried it without the tone pot on my black beauty LP and man this is the S**T!
It is a lot like a JB but like it took steroids or something!
when i tried the DD before i had not disconnected the tone pot and i did not care for it then.
But now this thing smokes, it has the crunch, clarity, and harmonics that i crave!

Yes indeed it is. I've got a couple wired that way myself.

Travis i would never have thought that a simple disconnect of the tone would effect the pup that much?
It really came to life with just a 500K V pot!

say,
I've been reading alot about this disconnecting the Tone pot and people's major breakthroughs-- is it as simple as de- soldering everything from the pot?

Oh yeah, on a strat,
would I do this on both the bottom tone and the middle tone to achieve this? Thanks

Thats interesting, because I find I like it just the opposite. Whenever I use heavy distortion, I roll the tone back to zero. My theory being that the modified squarewave from the distortion generates the highs, so I don't want to make them quot;mushyquot; with the ones from the guitar.

Different strokes.

I did this on my Ibanez a year back, but it was only volume/tone control. I took the whole tone control out of the guitar and it brought it to life man! The distortion absolutely screamed without the tone control.

A couple options you might want to consider is to get a no-load 500k pot. That way, when the pot is on 10 (full on), it acts as a short so no signal at all is bleed through the cap to ground. That way, there's not much of a modification to the guitar from the way it is, while still giving you that wide open tone you're looking for. Plus, when you go to solder it in, it's a drop-in replacement and you wouldn't need to change any wires around. Or, you can completely change 2 or 3 wires around and have seperate tones for middle and neck pickups and then have the bridge wired with no tone (similar to the way the jimmy vaughan strat is wired, except the jimmy vaughan has no tone on the middle pickup as opposed to bridge).

Let's say that I wanted to disconnect the JB from the tone pot, but leaving the other pickups connected to the pot... how would I do it?

HSH Ibanez, BTW.

ok thanks
HOw did you 'take the whole tone control out of the guitar'?
De-Soldering any connections to the tone pot yes?

I'm low-teck,
I mean pickup changes are real nail-biters but they always work out.

could a no-load tone pot acheive similair results

With a Super switch.... which just connects the tone pot on position 1-4

give me some further thinking:
but I think it would work if you just connect it to the other pub! but If you got three pubs this wouldn't work anymore

Pubs? What you mean? I'm sorry, but I have ZERO tech knowledge. It took me THREE attempts to install the JB correctly

So if you could, with apples and oranges please? Thanks.

I meant Pup = Pickup... it was a typo
