Does anybody have a real early (90-94) MiM Tele or Strat that has a really quot;agedquot; type of tone? What i mean by that is, do the pickups in these guitars age and get the quot;weaker magnetic fieldquot; that makes 50's and 60's Fenders have such a sweet tone? I think another 15-20 years would make my MiM Tele sound real sweet, if indeed, time has a positive effect on these MiM guitars in the same way it has on the very first Fenders. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I got a '96

the strats use(d) ceramic mags and I dont think those age.

ceramic magnets..... hmm, never thought about that. Well at least they still sound good without the whole ageing thing. That sucks if ceramic magnets don't age though

I think thye do, just not nearly as much.

but just think.. the wood is still getting dryer. On a vintage instrument, its not just the agind pups that make it sound quot;agedquot;.

I have a 95 that I have upgraded extensively over the years. Back then, the MIM Fenders were pretty sorry compared to the present ones. I have replaced pretty much everything on it except the wood and the bridge, so I guess I can't really answer your questions.

Those stock S/C's could use a lot of improvement. If you're lookin for that quot;agedquot; tone, buy some pre-aged pickups .

I have a 92 MIM Tele. It has an EMG 81/85 combo. Sounds unreal...

My 96' sounds and plays way better then any current MIM strat.

I have a 85' Squire Korean tele. I love the neck on it. The Pickups were just OK ( I heard no mellowing) and the wiring guage was very thin, Like tinsel. Best thing I ever did was shield it, rewire everything and put in some fralins.

I kinda wanna keep this MiM's electronics and pickups all original. I'm not gonna say that the stock pickups are quot;amazingquot; or quot;better than so and so's pickupsquot; because their not, they just sound good to me and i really don't have a reason to change them.

I recently parted out a 99 MiM strat recently that i had a set of SSL-1's in and while the pickups did sound really good, the guitar seems to limit them from doing what they are fully capable of. Things like sustain and resonance didn't seem to be there very much. So thats when i decided that compared to this stock MiM tele, the tele actually sounds better, resonated more, and has more sustain than the strat did with the SD pickups. So honestly, that strat is pretty much keeping me from wanting to swap out pickups now because i'm afraid that the pickups will be quot;too muchquot; for the guitar.

Someone else mentioned quot;pre-agedquot; pickups earlier. In my esquire, i have a SD Broadcaster p/up in it thats supposed to have quot;Dun-Agedquot; pickup magnets. I don't really hear anything special about this pickup. Maybe i got a hold of one that just wasn't made as good as the others or what you call a quot;lemonquot;. But I think my MiM's bridge pickup out does this one, IMHO. Looks really cool though. And through certain amps it does have a pretty good tone, but its just not quot;therequot; like the Standard's is.FenderBender

my strat i believe is 2000 lol so ig uess its not that old, and it only has ceramics.
