I have a strat with a JB jr. in the bridge, and find it a little lacking. Have anyone tried a fullsize JB for the bridge with duckbuckers in the middle and neck positions? Any other combinations I should consider?
What I am after are a versatile guitar, that can go from dirt to clean.
I've got a CustomCustom in the bridge, a Hot Rails in the middle and a Cool Rails in the neck of my Peavey. I can get a lot of different sounds, especially when I split the humbucker. You lose some of the variety the dirtier you get, though. I mean, you still get the single coil sound from splitting the CC, and you get the usuall difference between the neck and bridge positions, but some of the positions aren't as distinct. I hardly use the HR dirty, but I use it a lot (in combination with the CC) when clean. Just another option to consider.
I've got one right here, can you here it?
Seriously, I have a maple neck '01 Fender AmSe Strat with a SSL-2/SSL-2/JB setup and I like it. I had a PG in the bridge before but wanted to try the JB in it. The JB in parallel is way cool and is what I use most of the time in this guitar for a bridge sound. In standard series mode it is pretty heavy sounding. This guitar can go from super-clean-jangly-strat to psuedo-P90 to big-fat-hairy-butt-kicker with a flick of the switch. It's really pretty cool and probably my most versatile guitar. I still like the PG in a Strat though and have my '92 Gamp;L Legacy set up with SSL-2/SSL-2/PG. PG also sounds cool in parallel and I have switches on both guitars for that function.

That sounds interesting. Te SSL-2 is a vintage single coil, right?
I think you would be happy with the upgrade to the full size JB, too. Very versatile, and a little bit more to it than it's little brother.

Sounds like what I'm after. Thanks.
