What's difference between the 60's era strat and the 70's era strat? Strat players will often refer to the 60's and 70's era's?

Head stock size? Body woods? Pickup's didn't change much in the 70's did they? Parallel/series mods?

Or is it more of an issue of how the strat was played 60's vs. 70's? Less surf and more rock? Better amps?

What is the definitive 70's strat tone?

mostly, in 65 the company was bought by CBS. At this point it is percieved (perhaps truly that quality went downhill. More experienced players who've actually laid hands on such axes should chime in... I've never wanted to touch anything that expensive.

Is fender still owned by CBS?

nope. As I recall, a bunch of investors bought the company back in the 80s.

The following post by Zionstrat on another thread got me started on this thought:

[quote]Agreed on center strat pup with single coils- but try a blade one day and bet you will be surprised- Wonderful rhytehm and non-quacky sound if you roll off about 1/2 the 2nd blade- Covering 70's tunes, couldn't handle rhytem without it-[quote]
