Never played Matchless. Would it be good to have one?
Cheers

Matchless is IMHO pretty much the quot;God of cleansquot;. I love the Chieftain (as I'm sure Gearjoneser will tell you how much he loves his).

The price seems right for the Chieftain, Matchless amps usually sell for around 2 grand to 2500.

I had found a slightly used one a while back at a shop in Houston for $1700. It was a good price.

I got to hear a Matchless Clubman and it blew me away at the Houston Amp Fest. I thought it kicked the crap out of the Chieftain. The reverb on the Chieftain is pretty lame.

Those amps are kind of an aquired taste. This guy's probably selling it because it wasn't his taste. Go play a Marshall Bluesbreaker or JTM 45 to get an idea of what to expect. To me, the Chieftain is the best British sounding amp for a strat, mostly because it's like Jimi's clean tone with reverb. Outside of that sound, there are many amps that can do more. I really like mine, because it sounds huge with a strat, but I could never make it my main amp, because it's not focused enough for Les Pauls, and it has a very signature sound. $2100 is a fair price, but it's a lot of money for a luxury amp, IMO. I'm not sure I'm digging red either.

a rivera and now a matchless...you're on a roll bro!!!
