How can i sett my amp and my pedal (a zoom 2020 and a boss superoverdrive) to get a nice distortion like lagwagon, nofx, ecc..

what amp?

i've a fender fm 212r (100w)

In a band situation or at bedroom levels?

in a band situation...

I'll let someone else address this. I'm no tube snob, nor am I anti-multieffects units...but there is a weak link in this chain.

sorry, but i don't understand!

The bands you're talking about the get their sounds from
high gain tube halfstacks for example Lagwagon played mesa rectifier and VHT pitbulls
NoFX plays Mark III and IV ...
The all play straight setups: guitar direect in the amp or maybe a wah in between....

That said i would start testing the lead settings on the zoom and use a clean setup on the amp ...

the FM has a tube preamp? or is it all solid state?

seems to be SS .. the amp was intended for heavy metal use, so i think just the gain channel should get you there.

the two fender amps i have played a lot through are the roc-pro 750 (or 700 .. forget the number) which has a tube pre amp and has a quite nice gain channel

then there is the princeton 65 fukkin loud. its gain channel is more early metallica sounding with a bit of a fizz in the upper tones (you cant realy hear it that well in a band situation unless you're paying attention.. and other factors to which i wont go in now)

so, the FM should take you there.. but i'm sorry, i'm not very familiar with lagwagon, but it should deliver the nofx type distortion, you should leave the zoom out of the loop for this one, cos it doesnt add to the tone and i'm not familiar with the boss pedal, sorry

Thanx! Gimme Gimme my nofx distortion!

I have a princeton 65 and against a good high gain half stack it sounds just fizzy imo

thats what i said didnt i? but it does sound better than most SS amps out threre

Don't use a Zoom. Nuff said. Amp gain is almost ALWAYS better than any pedal.

I had a Zoom 4040 years ago and I couldn't get that thing to sound good through a 65 Fender Twin, 67 Fender Deluxe, 73 Marshall 50 watter, three Marshall plexi reissues. I sounded excellent directly into a PA or recorder or my home stereo, lol.

You are trying to put a preamp that has its own colored sound through an amplifier that has its own sound as well is how it was explained to me. Mine always sounded like it had a blanket over it. I spent a LOT of time trying to program anything from overdrive to massive distortion from scratch as I played through the amp but never got it right. I finally sold it to a friend of mine who got a power amp and cab and actually still uses it today, and it sounds REALLY good. At the time I was more into the sound of a real tube amp and didn't want to get a power amp. I tried the Zoom, a Line 6 Pod Pro and a Marshall JMP-1 all with the exact same results--awesome through a power amp, recorder or PA, horrible through an amp. Actually the JMP-1 did sound pretty good through my Plexi reissues, but only two of them. I can't figure that one out, LOL. Once you cranked them though, dog poo.

Hope this helps you out a little.
