I have a floyd rose guitar. Iwnat to do drop-tuning on it. How do i achieve this without making the bridge go off center?
Try a D-tuna
I mean like going down to drop c or lower
You need to either block the trem or set it up to accept the thicker string guages and lower tuning.
Thicker guages will be needed no matter what, that's a given. Keep in mind that Floyd nuts accept strings up to 13-60 without needing to be modded, so keep it under that.
There's a guide in the vault on how to adjust the spring tension to compensate for different string guages and tunings, or use the search function.
How do you block the trem?
Place a wooden block in the cavity so the trem cant move, and then tighten the springs down as tight as they can go. It makes it so you can only dive with the trem.
How do you tighten the springs? (I'm soory if these are stupid questions but I don't know much about floyds)
under the back plate, there are springs attached to a plate with screws. tighten the screws.
Just start turning them to the right with a phillips screw driver.
cheers
that blocking the tremolo seems like a nice idea, i´m trying that, and you´ll say that you can only dive bomb towards the nut heh???
tell me more ...
Search in the vault or use the search function, just search for quot;floyd block.quot; It's been discussed numerous times.
Sometimes you need to add a spring...sounds like you got em....I had to add 3 on my old Charvel Avenger.

My RG570's trem will take 11-70, and I had a Yamaha Drop 6 strung 18-74, both with Floyd-copies.
On the other hand, I had an Ovation with a Kahler that wouldn't even take a 60, though.
Generally if you are going to tune that low you shouldn't have a floyd equipped guitar to begin with. Use hardtails for low tunings. Floyd equipped guitars you should generally set up to a specific tuning and leave it that way. Otherwise the above suggestions are the only things you can really do.
you can low tune it as well but as xeromus said leave the tuning after you are done
ALTERNATIVE: Hipshot makes a wonderful little unit called a quot;Trem-setterquot;, which has the purpose of making absolutely sure your trem reverts to the quot;neutralquot; position.
The tremsetter can ALSO be set up with a bit of extra tension to counteract a D-tuna, and VOILÁ!!: Instant Dropped d tuning, on a FLOATING FLOYD, w/o ANY adverse side effects (aside from the changed intonation of the low e).
It will also work with a Rockinger Blackbox/ Göldo Backbox.
The difference between E and Dropped d is smapll enough that these little gadgets can easily counteract it
*EDIT* Ups, just saw Dropped C or lower. Quick and simple: e/ Dropped D or for ex. B/ Dropped A can be done w/ a tremsetter.
But retuning the whole guitar requires y redoing of the entire setup. It´s the tradeoff for haveing the most stable and sensitive trem in the known universe. That´s why guys like me have multiple guitars Originally Posted by DeadSkinSlayer3....Thicker guages will be needed no matter what, that's a given. Schaller made R3, R4 and R5 nuts (1 11/16quot; Narrow, 1 11/16quot; Wide, 1 3/4quot; resoppectively) accept 14-75 w.o modification, at least mine do
^^^^ Holy sh*t, I didn't know Tremsetters would do that. Might have to look into getting one now...
With a D-Tuna, does it retune all the strings, or just drop low E to D?
I've never tried one, but I wanted to, cause i play in drop D and E alot.
I guess thats why i have 3 guitars...

Ah thanks for the correction! I didn't know that.
