I just had a set of Seth Lovers (7.4 K neck, 8.0 K bridge) installed in my Gibson ES-137 Classic. I have been slowly upgrading this guitar since my wife gave it to me for my birthday in 2003 -- added a bone nut, and had it set up with .011s using a Junior wrap around the tail piece. I kept the stock 490R/498T pickup set for almost 2 years, and was able to get some decent tones from them, but these Seths are in a different class. Although it's a bit cliche, they really sound like a you took a blanket off the amp. They are very warm and smooth, as advertised, but also very clear, sweet, and textured. None of the muddiness on the low strings like the stock pickups tended toward, and none of the harshness in the mids and highs like the 498T tended to slip into. The Seth neck and bridge pickups balance very nicely in terms of output, and they blend together beautifully.
I haven't tested them at any decent volume yet. However, I actually remembered to record a pretest sample with the stock pickups through my POD XT and Tascam DP-01FX portastudio the night before the swap, so I was able to record the Seths last night and then compare them side-by-side to the stock pickups. Suffice it to say that although this is just a preliminary perspective, I'm very impressed so far. This guitar will now give my Teles a run for playing time.
Congrats. They really are special pickups. I've had them for a few years now and never get tired of them.

Jeff,
I used to live in Port Jefferson back when I was at SUNY/Stony Brook. I've been in Memphis, TN for 6 years, but I still miss the surf and seafood of LI.

I might try some Alnico 5s in my Seth pretty soon.. stay tuned !
I like the Seths in my Hamer Artist, and I have a spare that I might add to and put in my Les Paul.

Excellent! Well, it's getting close to summer (he said, being so sick of winter ). The surf will be up soon, and the seafood ready to roll. Come on back home for a while!

Man, I'd like to get back for a visit, but my kids and the rest of my family live in WNY, so I rarely get past Rochester. I remember getting LI lobster for less than $4 a pound, and nothing could come close to Peconic Bay scallops -- food of the gods.
It has been a long winter, so I hope you guys have a great spring.
Curly and Thames,
I'm looking forward to further sonic experiments -- my own and yours. So, keep us posted. Like I said, I'm sure my LP will be itching for new pups sooner rather than later now that the Seths are in the ES-137.

May we hear those comparisons as well?
How do you think the Seths would sound in the bridge of an SG with a '59 in the neck? I'm trying to figure out a config for Clapton/Cream, Billy Gibbons, blues/hard rock tones.

I don't have a venue for posting clips. I haven't mixed it down since I was just doing a quick and dirty test against a few rounds of 12 bar blues. I've only had the digital Portastudio for a week, and I'm still learning how to use it and then integrate it with my laptop for CD burnin' and mp3 conversion. So much to do, so little time...
I have seths in my epi. les paul and I love them.I played with a friend, who has a gibson sg and the seths sounded better!!!!!
