I just spontaneously bought one of these... saw it at the shop for what I thought was a good price and thought, quot;what the heckquot;. Haha.
What do you guys think about it? And where should it be placed in the effects chain?
And one the side... do you think it can be used with an acoustic? I've got this taylor that has a pickup without a preamp/eq controls.
Cheers!
It's a noisey pedal with quite a bit of hiss if used in your amp's input...Works great within your amp's effects loop though and is quiet and makes a huge overall eq difference.
I use it in the effects loop of my JCM800 4211- it totally changes the tone of the amp- it does the classic Marshall thing stock, but with the GE-7 in the effects loop I can get some crushing metal- I set it in a V formation with the highs and bass boosted. It adds alot more versatility to the EQ of the amp. Put a Tubescreamer in front and you'll never think of getting any new Marshall
In front of the amp I don't like it, it didn't change the sound enough
Thanks guys,
I've been playing for the past hour or so... I like it! There are just so many things I can use it for. Besides generic EQ'ing, its pretty good as a booster (coz you can customise the sound). It also can act as another quot;channelquot; of your amp... or a feedback enhancer... I'm glad I bought it.
It is slightly noisy though... especially with high gain. I didn't try it in the fx loop coz my amp has a parallel fx loop (Marshall DSL 401). Don't think that would work. =(
I use mine alot and it works great for me. Instead of switching to a clean sound, I use mine to slightly mute or cut the sound on a gain channel for a quiet passage, and then hit the pedal to return to my full (normal) volume. I like it cuz instead of a 'clean' sound, I can do a lower volume 'dirty' sound which fits in more for the style I play (metal, classic amp; punk rock).
I use mine first in line in the 'loop' of my Boss NS2. That eliminates any unwanted noise, but since I don't really use mine as boost, there isn't that much noise to begin with...
I've been using a GE-7 as a solo boost since about 1984, driving single-channel Marshalls. I set it up an inverted V shape with a big hump in the upper mids. It just drives the snot out of the front end of my 18 Watter. Best overdrive sound I've ever found. I've never been bothered by it being noisy.
Yeah I think its brilliant as a boost pedal. I've always used my trusty TS9 to date and I still love it... but this EQ pedal allows me to shape the quot;boosted tonequot; in ways that the TS9 can't achieve.
Well, the noise isn't that bad... in a live setting i don't think it will be noticed unless everyone stops playing suddenly. Haha.
Great pedal... don't believe i didn't get it sooner.
Where should it sit in the effects chain?
Putting boosting capabilities aside, would the EQ be more effective before or after my distortion pedals? My guess would be after...?
I'd try but most of my pedals are overseas. lt;sobgt;
