i was playing guitar today..when suddenly my teacher told me to do a vibrato...

since i started on violin..i used only my fingers...to wiggle them around..without using my wrist and forehand...

i was told by my teacher that it was wrong to do so...and he said it looks unprofessional.

same with my bends..he says.....i only use my fingers to bend strings(moving them up and down) but he says keep the fingers still but move the wrist...
he says to practice by playing around with a door knob.

for me..the fingers only method is easier..but that may be because i haven't practiced the wrist method..

what do you guys suggest?

Well, I don't really know, I've never had that problem.

MAYBE, you can use heavier strings for a little bit, 11 or maybe even a 12 set, and force yourself do do vibrato, I don't think you'll have a choice to bend with only your fingers with those heavier strings? Then I guess once you get the bending better, you can go back to your old gauge and you should do well maybe?

He is trying to teach you the most efficient method that gives you the most accurate control... It isnt that you arent doing them wrong, it's jus that he has insight to improve accuracy and efficiency....

I hated changing to the wrist technique, but have found that it does add precision once you get used to it... Of course, it isnt ALWAYS going to work, during some more demanding passages, you might still have to use the individual finger for vibrato......

One thing for sure, my bends became very accurate quicly with the wrist method!

i think i need to loosen up my wrist...its too tense..and i think that might be what's preventing me...i'll try again..
