I was just cleaning my pickguard when I noticed that the quot;oxide capsquot; are turning brownish. Like fading. Help!?
They are getting a light coat of rust on them. Use something to stop the rust. Others will have better desriptions of what to use and how.
Can I spray the pickup with something to prevent rust and at the same time, not affect the electronics? (So I can spray freely....)
No, alot of chemicals will break down the coil wire coating if not the bobbins. Get a little bit of napatha in a cup and dip a rag or q-tip in it then rub off the rust with the rag/q-tip. Try not to get any in the pick up. Just on the caps.
Just leave it and call it your battlescars, ya I know, not the best idea.
Where can I acquire some napatha? Will a normal spray to prevent rust work? Also, does napatha remove the rust? I'm sorry if that's a lot of questions, but this caught me by surprise.
Napatha is standard lighter fliud. Just don't spray anything at the pickup. Napatha will help quot;break it upquot; but you rubbing with the rag will remove the rust.
Will 3 in 1 also work? It says it can prevent, clear and some other thing.
I'd try WD40 before the 3-in-1. Just don't spray it on the pickup. Put some on a rag or a Q-tip and detail it.
This happened to me with my Hotrails. Some people just have really acidic sweat. Someone recommended I put clear nailpolish over the rails to prevent corrosion, and that worked... for a bit, anyway.
