Well I ended up selling off my PRS CU 24 in order to get a PRS McCarty Rosewood Soapbar - I love solid rosewood necks!!! I was not thrilled with the neck pu. thought it was a little thick and lacked a bit of upper mid punch but I recorded this little clip and I gotta say I think it sounds GREAT. You can hear me switching pu's throughout. And of course being true to p-90's and considering I was sitting infront of my computer while I was recording you can actually hear some hum when I am not in the middle position. I was more interesested in getting a clip done to put the guitar through it paces so I just grabbed the first backing track that caught my fancy. I used the slowbeckish track that was posted last week. My take sounds quite different from the others, even my wife liked it and she is my hardest critic. Noodle too much and she is the first to call me on it.

Scott informed me that the pu's in this are seymour duncan vintage p-90 in the neck and SD Custom neck in the bridge.

Nice clip! If I buy another PRS, it's gonna have to be a P-90 version. I really liked the Triple Soapbar model they discontinued. That guitar you bought is sweet! And tasty melodic playing too.

Al, mighty fine clip! That McSoapy sounds great, thick yet articulate. You feed my jones!

Two words: Throaty. Tasty.

Great clip and great tone. What were you playing through?

Thanks, I am playing through the amp my brother made. For this clip I was using the vintage marshall pre-amp with an added overdrive stage (driven only 1/2 way) and EL 84 power tubes. The EL 84's always add a bit of quot;throaty-nessquot;. Used a celestion blue 12quot; speaker mic'd with my sennheiser 421. No pedals, just guitar and amp.

The neck pu sounds great on that clip, fat and warm, but it is just is too muddy and dark for any chord work (articulation is just not good enough for the type of rythm playing I want out of it). I have temporarily replaced it's A5 magnet with a ceramic but am currently looking for a more permanent solution.

It´s good!!

Pure guitar and amp..that´s how it should be.

Wow, that sounds fantastic!!! Sweet overdriven sound. I like it.

Really nice!

-the Mcsoap is my favorite guitar. I often think of swapping my CU22 for one...

I had 4 PRS's. Two Santana's, one McCarty hollowbody II, and a custom 24. The custom 24 and the santana's all had humbuckers in, I liked the fat neck of the Santana's and McCarty much better than the regular Cu24 neck so after a lot of thought I decided to get rid of the Cu24 and go with the McSoapy. I also LOVE rosewood necks so it gave me a chance to get a nice fat rosewood neck as well. The p-90's are a nice difference to the humbuckers. It will be interesting which guitar will get the most playing time.

Nice tone and playing, P90's have been catching my ear lately.
