dimarzio recommend a 250k vol pot with a 1 meg tone pot. isn't it similar to a 500k vol and tone pot?

pretty close..

500k unloads the tone circuts darnkness quite well actually..Its a trick I've used here on some of my guitars too,

BTW- 1 meg is pretty much no-load = wide open ..

give 500k a try if thats what you have ready to go.good luck

I think the 1 meg tone pot versus the 500K tone pot might affect the rolloff frequency for the tone circuit a little bit.

I can't remember the calculations off the top of my head but I believe rolloff frequency is a factor of both the capacitor value and the tone pot value. In the overall scheme of things it's probably not a big difference though. I might have to dig out the Electronics 101 book to see if I can verify my rambling!!

given the same resistance value, i am sure the vol pot will bleed more treble to ground. that said, why use a 250k vol and compensate with a 1 meg tone? that is the part which i don't understand. which will give a brighter or darker tone?

I thought about that DiMarzio statement too. I can't see how that combo is noticeably superior or it would have become at least, somewhat popular in the industry at large. IMO, DiMarzio is just trying to stimulate their after market parts sales.
