I did some reading here and it seems that the custom-custom is just a custom with a different magnet?
I have a alnico II loaded gibson classic 57 that i can take the magnet out of?
would the CC be closer to a older paf tone than the stock custom is?
i need a very open tone that still has some balls in the output
i tried a 59,dimarzio regular paf,and a gibson 57
all these sound real good but are lacking in the output?
this is what seymour duncan says? The Custom CustomTM is our SH-5 Duncan CustomTM humbucker with an Alnico II magnet for warm and smooth highs, more midrange, and a spongier bottom end than the SH-5. It’s a good choice for players who need a traditional vintage tone with increased output.
So will it still sound like a paf?

So will it still sound like a paf? From my limited experience with this pickup I would say that it compresses to much under gain to sound like a true PAF style pickup, but great sounding otherwise. If you back off the gain knob things get better.

I honestly have no idea what a true PAF sounds like, I only know what sounds I like! That being said I've tried both the custom (actually had the custom in my original guitar for years) and custom custom and the CC won out, at least for me. Both are decent output pups, but I feel that the CC is warmer, brighter, and is much more sweet than the regular custom, with a bit better harmonics. The Custom just sounds a bit sterile to me.

the CC is more classic sounding than the custom but neither have that P.A.F openess you are looking for
try the dimarzio virtual hot PAF
this is the classic paf openess but with more drive
