So I'm not sure what to put in my Schecter tempest special. It has duncan designed stacked P-90's which are kind of mediocre. I prefer to go with true P-90 tone. I was originally going to put in a Rio Grande Jazzbar in the neck and Bluesbar in the bridge. I started looking at the SD hot, vintage, and custom soapbar too. How do all these compare, what do you guys suggest? I'm looking for a hot P-90 tone for the bridge and vintage for the neck. Rio Grande makes amazing single coils so I figured I'd give them a shot.
I like Rio's too, but not in my ain guitar. They have a quot;steeleyquot; edge to them that can get fatiguing after a while.
I would suggest going with a SD set, a vintage in the neck, and a Custom in the bridge. This will give you a combo that balances well, but still has some more push at the bridge position than a traditional set.
I think it's Scott_F that has so ardently promoted the Vintage neck/Custom (neck model) bridge combo. Perhaps he'll come along.
Check with Vintage VIbe Guitars. I think Peter there will hand-wind them to your specs and do so for about the price of one Phat Cat plus shipping.
I have a set of his humbucker-sized P-90's in a Les Paul and I'm yet to find a better mass-produced P-90 on the market.
