Yep, not just a top, but as a body. How do quilt and other maple bodies sound compared to mahogany or alder?
The whole body will be quilt maple? Out of curiousity how much is this costing? :/
very bright i would imagine.
Bright, but not as bright as an all plain maple body, I would think, because quilted maple is considerably less dense.
still, very bright.
with an astronomical price tag.
Bright, with a very fast attack

Is quilted maple an actual different species than regular maple? I thought maple was maple and the differences in looks were purely cosmetic
Are you looking that that Carvin on ebay? the blue one?

There are quilted/flamed and plain maple within the same species, but the conditions which will create the figuring of the wood also effect the density.

Doesn't the area of the tree from which the wood was taken from effect density and therefore figuring, like say, a piece taken from near the bottom would be more dense because it has all the weight of the rest of the tree above it pushing it down. I know thats the case for mahogany...
I'd say very bright and snappy with a good amount of sustain.

I have considered buying a piece and resawing it into book matched Maple caps for future body projects.
That is master grade stuff though. You can move down to a lower grade for alot less $$$. 5A is $275 a piece ($550 for a body), 4A is $169 a piece ($338 for a body), and 3A is $89 a piece ($178 for a body).
Wide leaf maple isnt as bright as rock maple. Flame and quilt maple usually come from wide leaf tree's.
Hamer made some californian's and all Vintage S guitars with solid flamed maple bodies.
They suposedly dont sound overly bright...
try this place theodie:

When I think of an all maple tone, I think of George Lynch.
