I love the Alnico II Pro humbuckers I have in my Quicksilver, particularly when the coils are split. They really give a smooth, bright and bell-like tone when combined with the alder body.

Now I'm considering modding a Strat, also made of alder. My first instinct is to go with Alnico II Pro single coils, seeing as how that combination has worked well for me in the past. However, I would also like to get a bit less hum out of the guitar, so I'm looking at alternatives, particularly with stacked designs such as the Classic Stack or Fender's own Vintage Noiseless pickups.

Are there any quot;noiselessquot; pickups comparable to the Alnico II Pros in tone?

Duncan is comming out with a new set of noiseless Strat pickups that are great, until then I would tell you to go with a set of Classic Stacks. The new stacks are supposed to be out this year, so if you can wait, I would wait, if you are in ahurry go with the Classic Stacks...if you want more info do a search on the forum, the new Stacks have been a hot topic lately, and there are lots of guys who use the Classic Stacks.

You have a quicksilver? woah! Got any pics?

I too am a big A2P fan, enough so that I got them for my strat as well after hearing them in my Heritage. They have a nice smooth sound with less glass than the SSLs. But the noise is still there. You could pain the inside of the cavity to reduce the hum, or quot;starquot; ground the guitar.

As far as noiseless pups go you might want to wait till SD releases the Stack they are supposed to be the next BIG step.

Yeah, well.....uhhhh at least I don't like Joe Perry's ugly guitar!!!!

Wow, didn't realize the Quicksilvers were so popular... Unfortunately, no, I don't have any pics right now. Maybe I'll take some and post 'em some time. I've got a second on order right now, actually...

Luke, I was under the impression that the star ground didn't improve the hum situation very much at all... is it a noticeable difference?

The Stack Plus sounds interesting, but will it compare in tone to the A2P? Or is it similar to any other pickups?

Sage, I tried the first run of Stack Pluses and I found them to be a bit thincker that say SSl-1 or Surfers...they had a tone that was close to APS-2's...they newest ones are supposed to be a tad glassier and chimer, if they are then they will be fantastic...lots of the character of the APS pickups but noiseless!Originally Posted by SageWow, didn't realize the Quicksilvers were so popular...
