like dimebag, so i can use my whammy bar to make the note go higher instead of lower. im a newbie so i need lots of help. im using a strat. please help.
If it's a strat, it's very hard to keep it in tune, making it a floating trem.
That's why Floyds are the proven tremolo unit for divebombs and pullups.
That said, you'd need to do this.
1. loosen the trem claw on the back of the guitar, so there's even tension on the bass and treble side.
2. get the trem, so it can pull-up at least a half note, if not a whole note.
3. make sure the saddles can be lowered back down, using the little allen bolts on the saddles. If they can't be lowered enough for good action, the neck needs to be removed, and a thin wood shim should be placed closest to the neck pickup, in the heel area. This will put a better angle on the neck.
4. the guitar will need to be re-setup, which includes adjusting the trussrod, setting all the saddles perfectly, and intonating the guitar again, using the phillips bolts on the end of the bridge.
5. If the guitar is setup perfectly, the bridge will have a forward angle, allowing it to go up and down, the action will be perfect, the intonation is perfect, and with mild use, the trem will stay in tune OK.
If you feel confident in doing all this, go for it. If you've never done extensive setups before, you're better off having a pro do it for about $30.
