I was looking at this site that sold a Brass or Silver Metal eNut for Guitar and was wondering if any one has done this? is it worth it for a strat (i use the trem arm all day)? also has anyone here shielded there guitar with copper,do i have to take the alum. off the pickguard if i want to replace it with copper or just glue the copper over the alum? why is copper better than foil?

No experience with eNUT.
I bought a copper pick guard shield to put on the back of my cheap pickguard for my Parts o caster. I left the aluminum on the guard, and just used spray adhesive to glue the copper to the guard. I did alot of changes to quiet that guitar so can't isolate the copper pickguard shield effect for you.

Why copper - Aluminum always oxidizes on its surface and Al2O3 surface layer resists the flow of electricity. Also copper metal is a better electrical conductor than aluminum. Aluminum has traditionally been cheaper than copper (haven't checked prices on the LME recently).

Copper foil is used to shield cavities because it's easier to solder to than aluminum. The aluminum foil on the pickguard is not soldered so its prob used because it's cheaper.

If you get copper foil with conductive adhesive you wont have to solder the foil sections together at all.

When you're done check all the shielding for resistance and continuity with a multi-meter.

Then as long as all the shielding is connected to ground, you're good to go.

what if its not all ground? what can that do?

If you do NOT have continuity between the copper foil in the pickup cavities and ground (earth) then the foil will not shield the PUPs electronics from stray noise. -gt; you might as well not have bothered with the shielding.

You can solder the foil together, not the whole seam but just enough across the seam to establish electical continuity.
