Hey, how can I tell that the truss rod needs to be readjusted?
thanks

from : localhost/section titled: Check your necks relief.

thanks man... thats really helpful

when you can use ur guitar neck as a hula- hoop.

Press at the first fret and the fret where the neck joins the body.If the relief looks higher than a .72 pick then you need to tighten the rod.If it's less than that you need to loosen your rod.
Capo the first fret,(or use a pencil and an elastic),and press the neck join fret, slide the pick between the top of the fret in the middle of those two points and the bottom of the string. If it just catches the pick it's fine,(that's 3/32quot; for anyone using a ruler or gauges).
Have the top of the truss rod nut pointing towards you and adjust as follows:
Think of the truss nut like a jar lid,the motion you make to loosen the lid will loosen the rod and vice versa.
I think the rhyme is quot;Lefty loosey,Righty tightyquot;.

Oh ****... after reading that, I'm quit eafraid of the truss rod... seems like it can really kill your neck quite fast when it breaks

just be gentle with it and only turn it small amounts at a time. if it gives you resistance take it to a tech for a setup.

Yes,thank-you Jangus.I knew I was missing something.
Jangus brings up a very important point, only turn the rod about 1/4 of a turn at a time and let it rest between.

Let's see if I can get some quot;experimentalquot; parts ;p

You really have to torque the hell out the truss to break it.
Though this brings up a good point, whenever you do ANY guitar work remember you're not in a mosh pit.Fast and aggressive are the two biggest mistakes that people make.

See chapter quot;restringing your guitarquot;

Don't worry about it. You usually only turn it in small increments, then re-check.

The only way you'll do any damage is if you have no clue about what you're doing and you keep tightening it till it's almost difficult to go further, then something snaps.
By the time you're at that point the neck will be severely back-bowed and you'll likely notice that you're killing the neck! Truss rod adjustments are really simple as long as you do everything gently.
