I'm wondering, how does that Zakk Wylde distortion pedal sound? It looks interesting but does it sound interesting?
From what I heard, it's like any vintage style distorsion box. He uses it as a clean boost anyway. Alltogether I doubt it'll bring you a heavy f*ucking metal distorsion even with the gain cranked. But I've never tried it
I got my Dunlop ZW-44 today. And it is sweet. I use it as a boost, with just a bit of edge to it, and it works a charm.
On its own it is okay, but nothing special. You will get a good, heavy driven sound, but not the sound you hear on his records. You will need a tubeamp allready driven for that.
But it is way better than Boss Od's, with basically the same controls.
Apparently the ZW-44 works much better as a boost for a dirty amp than a stand-alone OD. Is that true?
Most do.

IMO, yes.
Yep, it's an overdrive, not a distortion box.
