Okay, I think that in the last poll (Twin Reverb vs. the Bassman), I should have mentioned that I was talking about the '65 Twin Reverb RI amp.
So here is my next question:
Would you go for a Vox AC-30 or a Fender Twin Reverb '65 Reissue.?
Secondly, if one is going to spend all that money on a NEW AC-30 should he consider buying an original '65 Blackface???
Tv.
That is a tough one...
Both are great amps but they are also very different in what they do. So, this may not be a fair match up.
I picked the AC30 because I'm able to do more with it.
But, I still like the Twin...
You mentioned quot;spend all that money on the NEW AC-30...quot;
I think the new AC30CC are priced great for all the tone you get.
Seeing as the AC-30 I owned was probably the best sounding normal production amp I've ever owned...I'll say AC-30! Like the Twin Reverb though, it was to loud and to heavy. That's why I sold it. I have my Matchless SC-30 for those tones now.
what kind of music are u playing?
and have u ever though about a (more versatile) AC-30 copy (Orange AD30, Laney VC30) bot have more option than a normal AC30 (they come with a mids control) and u can always chang the speakers to Alnico Blues (for that perfect AC-30 sound)

As I get older, I see myself getting more into funk and Ramp;B music. At the moment I play a Marshall stack... I've decided to change things up and go into another direction after 5 years of thinking hard weather or not to sell the stack. I can't have more than one amp so I must part with my long time Marshall/girlfriend.
I'll look into the Orage AC-30 but am not too particular on the Laney... I want crisp cleans and dirty OD that breaks up nicely... those are VERY important to me... I ain't really looking for a power amp anymore, which is the way I see Marshall as.
Thanks for teh recommendation.

Is it safe to assume the AC30 you are polling is a reissue as well?
I've tried the AC30 model on my v-amp - not EXACTLY like the real thing, obviously, but I still REALLY didn't like the sound of my dot through it. I'm sure it would sound very different with a strat or a tele, but I much prefer the Fender with my guitar. Cleans are dash near unbeatable, and it gets nice and gritty when you slap an OD pedal in front. Plus, it looks a hundred times better IMO
I prefer the sound of my Tele through my AC30 and my Strat through my Fender Super.
Of the two you have listed I would pick the Fender, no doubt
However, I believe you should seek out something along the lines of a MESA Lonestar/LS Special or Rivera Chubster....an amp that will do Fender cleans, and then has a great OD channel.
The Rivera will do very respectable Fender cleans (BF or Tweed thanks to the mid notch), with the Ninja Boost will go into Bluesbreaker Territory, and then the Gain channel will do mid 70's marshall through heavy saturated modded Marshall/Soldano like lead tones. That will cover every quot;blues tonequot; you could think of..from 1950's CHESS sessions through the brit blues guys to Gary Moore, KWS, and Warren Haynes
LoneStar will do Fender cleans and get into gritty blues, moderate crunch.. LS Special will be more chimely like a vox.
Plenty of much more versatile amps out there with phenomenal tone in the same price ranges as the Vox and TRRI

I own a Fargen Epic 30 DC, which is a channel switching Vox AC-30 and Marshall JTM-45 on crack.
I love Vox cleans. There is a signature chime that EL-84 AC-30 type circuits get. They gradually break up at higher levels and can get a nice overdrive blown wide open. Hard rock fans and the like will want something with more distortion and balls, but classic rockers, pop rockers and the like will feel right at home. For overdrive, I prefer a Marshall, but the Vox AC-30 does an admirable job of doing two different tones in one housing.
Big for the Vox!!!
Take the twin if you're playing LOUD funk or clean stuff outdoors for private gigs.
But....
I've decided on a DRRI over the TRRI for price, portability and tone reasons. If you want the sound of a fender, it's just as good to go for a smaller amp and use a moderate wattage PA when you really need power.
My DRRI mic'ed through an 800 watt QSC PA to a Yorkville cab is probably easier to transport than a Twin (lighter separate parts instead of one cumbersome backbreaking package), and for the situations that you'd have to play somewhere that needs twin volume, they would NEED to have a PA there already for vocals and instument micing
Venues don't expect you to achieve insane volumes without a PA (unless it's a marshall stack), and depending on where you play, most of them will want you to keep it down anyway.
I've always pictured an AC-30 as a lead brick amp that's missing the headroom. It weighs a ton, but doesn't have fender twin level headroom at all. The tone is sweet for what it's good at though.
I'd go for an AC30. I personally don't like the blackface twin's midrange character. I find it a bit scooped and thin. And I hear great things about the new AC30 range. Much more versatility...

These amps have always been in the back of my mind but have never tried one. If it can do Fender cleans and Marshall OD tones than I'll surely try one out.
Although I'll try one out, does anyone have any hands on experience with the Chubster/Clubster?

The new aC30CC's are made in china.

I've been very happy with my chinese produced Vox AC30 Custom Classic...I have the Wharfdale speakers, not the Alnico Blues..wish I could afford them...
and the tones that come out of this thing are AMAZING. I absolutely love it..and the innovations they added on this one like footswitchable reverb and a master volume...pure genius..the tones are amazing and with a great overdrive pedal..that's all you really need to do the blues thing (which is almost the entirety of what I do)

I don't see anything wrong with the laney from what i have heard it is closer to the AC-30 then the orange and it has 2 chanells and reverb

I agree that the new Custom Classic is a great model at an even better price point. You basically get all the variations of AC30s in one super AC30.
What does a Twin sound like cranked? I mean, I know Voxs have a certain mild overdrive sound, but what about a Fender? They are more known for their cleans than for OD stuff... would it sound good with a tubescreamer, or a distortion pedal?
