Man does it look killer. My photography skills really stink, so these pics are the best I can do.

Scott is on vacation, and the shop is closed, but he made arrangements with me to pick it up while he was gone...how cool it that? I hung out with Brian, one of the guys that builds and covers/tolexes the cabs. Really cool guy. He showed me how they build their head enclosures, how they layout and cut the tolex and get it to fit so nice. He also took me on a little mini tour of the wood shop where they build the head enclosures and cabs. I saw all of the raw materials, and cabs in various stages of construction.

Let me tell you, these guys use top grade baltic birch plywood for EVERYTHING. I have never seen such nice, clean pieces of baltic birch in my life...you can't get this stuff at Lowes or Home Depot fella's. The quality of the wood is so nice, it's almost a shame to put tolex over it. You could stain it and it would look great.

The joints they put on these cabs and heads is so tight. They have a really high end saw that cuts the edges so clean you can but them together with no gaps. They slot each joint with no less than 6 recessed wood screws and wood glue. Then they take the edges once they are together and run them through a special router. It makes the edges appear to be solid...you can't even see a seam once they are done. You could litterally sand and stain, and it would look great. They were building an 8x10 custom bass enslosure that sure looked sweet, and they are starting some 4x10 enclosures for blues and bluegrass players at their request.

Really fun way to spend some time on a hot afternoon. Here's the best pics I can take of my new baby.Sweet

Very nice Jeff!

How's the amp sound thru that cab?

it has a real nice clean look to it

that looks KILLER Jeff...very nice setup!! i think my '79 JMP would look sweet with that cab hehehe. this is why i went with a Splawn cab over everything else on the market...HIGH BUILD QUALITY, nice people and great sound!

Yummy!!!

That is sweet, Jeff_H. Why dont Marshall put out something like that?

I would buy that JMP from you right now if you are serious. Dead serious.

The build quality of their stuff is outstanding. Just to clarify, my cab is a Marshall cab, not a Splawn cab. I had them mod it for me. They re-did the grill cloth...they reinforce the baffel (is that the right term), the board that the speakers are mounted on, and re-wired it with heavy duty wire...not the cheap little stuff that Marshall uses. The only mods I didn't have done were metal handles and a new back. They like to take the partical board back off the Marshall cabs, and use Baltic birch there as well. I didn' think for my uses that this was necessary.

Brian and Scott both said that Marshall actually uses decent Baltic birch for the sides, top and bottom of their cabs...the front is just weak, and they use partical board for the back. Their wood isn't as nice looking as Splawns, but Scott says it really not that bad.

Out of mutual curiousity, what did this cost?

Very sweet.

You're gonna crap.

I paid $375 for the 4x12 cab at Guitar Center about a month ago, which is an ok/decent deal. I took it to Splawn and had all the mods done that I listed.....$75. For annother $75, I could have had the metal handles instead of the stock plastic Marshall handles, and the Baltic Birch back.

i dig the KISS poster

very nice. what color grill cloth is on there?

It's pretty cool. It's actually a color chalk/pencil drawing from a local artist here in Charlotte. She's an oriental girl, and she has amazing talent. She draws sports figures, political figures, musicians, actors...everything. It really looks amazing in person.

I'm thinking of having her do a poster sized drawing of a few artists.

It's Marshall Basketweave Cane grillcloth. The pic's don't do it justice. I'm going to have to hire Xssive to take some pics for me.

Jeff the problem with my JMP is that i don't think i can sell it lol. my brother gave it to me about 13 years ago as a hand me down and i never asked him if he would mind me selling it for fear that he would say...quot;well i'll just take it back then if you don't want it.quot;...i rather keep this than nothing hahaha. i may just have it modded though into a little high gain monster!

-Mike

How about you quot;rentquot; it to me?

*Double Crap*

How did you get the JCM900 4x12 for $375? Last time I checked every Marshall cabinet hovered around one grand.

Hot damn, that is, hands down, my FAVORITE color scheme on amps. Black tolex and a wheat grill.

So, how does it sound, eh??

Cool. Marshall could do SO much if they really wanted to, but they don't. Instead, they let the competition trounce them, while other companies grab the ball and run with it. Bogner should send them a thank you letter.
Splawn too!

Dear Jim Marshall, thank you for creating the blueprint by which our company grabbed the ball and ran with it. Anytime you want, put our Bogner Ecstasy next to your best Marshall, and watch our amp crush your piece of sh!t like a little pea being run over by an 18 wheel semi! Thank you, Reinhold Bogner.
