Looks good, but I hate to see where this thread may go!!! LOL
That thing is HUGE!!!!!It does look a lot like alder. Warmoth has a site with pictures and descriptions of wood. You might want to check it out and compare.

Tee hee! I always appreciate the support so to speak It's so big it needs it's own case, though it spends most of it's days out, being fiddled with.
Anyways, yeah, I looked on warmoth and couldn't really tell. I knew it was either alder or basswood. It would have been heavy for basswood but I'd have felt heavier. It's a jag, yeah, and because jag's aren't naturally very resonant (24quot; scale, no breaking angle over the bridge) it's hard to tell. Though this one lets resonance shine through more than most... She's a vibrator
it's this guitar.
Looks like I got the answer I hoped for. Thanks

It doesn't look so big in that picture. I'm glad you can have fun with it a lot, though. Do you ever take it out in public?

Only when it's called upon to do great deeds. What you can't see is that It's blocking out the sun in that picture. The rest of me can be pictured microscopically, holding it up. Trust me, it's that big.
One time I was playing with it at my niece's elementary school, and it was so loud and vulgar that they kicked me out. I guess the public school system is opposed to quot;turning japanesequot; (the song I was playing at the time)

I'd say alder, but some of the fruitwoods like apple, pear and cherry have similarly dense grains and are very heavy. Basswood is very light.
Here is a useful online resource;

from : localhost/someone else on here that knows their wood. But fruitwoods have never been used for a Fender guitar, unless you want to get technical and call pine a fruitwood.

I know my wood like the back of my hand.
That looks like alder
I have a guitar made of basswood that is very heavy

basswood's iffy. Just like every other kind of wood. Generally speaking, it's a very light wood, but when it's heavy, it's HEAVY.

I've seen a Strat made of cherry, but i don't expect it was a routine proddy model...
I wouldn't define pine as a fruitwood, i'd call it an evergreen.
