Was just thinking about getting an AC30 in the future so I went to the site. Is the AC30CC the only AC available now? It has the features I want (reverb, etc) but its made in China, and a quick gander at the reviews on Harmony Central indicates variable quality. I know I have to play one to truly make a decision - just would have thought they would have kept the UK production going.

I do not know if they are still making the Hand Wired AC30's or not, but if they are, those were made in UK. But, you'll drop $2500 USD on one.

Funny you should ask. I've been searching in Toronto for one and UK AC 30's (2002/2003 models) are going for $3,000CAN. They are made in Asia now as are the Blue speakers (apparently).

I'd say that if you are gonna get a Vox, get one that was made in Britain. For me, it is a toss up between getting a BF Deluxe Reverb or an AC30.

I have heard mixed things about quality. Seems that the VOX sound is there from what I have been told. I really want one or either a Dr. Z. I will probably opt for a good used Dr. Z.

I believe Korg owns and manufactures AC30s now. I have the reissue and it sounds fantastic although I'm not positive where it was manufactured.

I have the Vox AC30 Custom Classic and I love it. I think it's a marvelous sounding amplifier and mine barely hisses (as is customary for these amps) When you boost the top end like these top boost amps do, you're gonna have to worry about a little hiss...I'm probably gonna pop it open and start looking it over and see if there's anything I can do to remove the hiss. Need to consult some more experience amp technicians first.

On a side note, I did find this amps serious weakness. The tolex is put on there rather shoddy...and it's already peeling around some of the edges (corners, at the gold piping) ...I'm gonna get a case for this thing, but apparently the cosmetics are applied about as poorly as the old grillcloths were

Lord yeah! The tolex on the new Voxes sucks. I've toyed with the idea of having it re-tolexed or just getting a road case, but who cares when the amp sounds like the voice of God?

A local amp tech suggested I use DAP Weldwood Contact Cement to fix the tolex tears. Haven't tried it yet but I will soon.
