Hello everyone!

I just put a Screamin Demon and a Jazz in a Dean Vendetta a friend gave me.

Holy S***! I don't know why people give this pup a bad rap, its awesome. The Dean pups were junk and I thought the guitar itself was crummy. I put these in and now the Dean is fantastic.

I thought the Custom and Lil '59 was great in my soloist, but these guys ROCK!

Who knew a pickup swap would turn a lower end Dean into a tone machine.

Man, why does the Demon blow everybody (but me) away???

I'll tell you, I was really surprised, i was worried it would be all treble. It really isn't all that trebly on my rig.

Tube Works 9100 head-Marshall 1960a, its sweet and powerful with a nice growl. I love it!

Congrats! I have had excellent luck with the Custom/Lil '59 setup, but I've never been satisfied with the Demon. Tonally, i like it, but it's just not hot enough.

I put a Demon in my MIJ Strat and it's amazing tonewise and just hot enough to sing a bit.

I really like it. It seems to be picky about what guitar it goes in tho...

What is your perception on the tonal balance of the Screamin Demon? I think Lynch's first ESP was an all maple body wich for sure makes a bright sounding instrument so, even though it carried DD early on, I thought the Screamin Demon would not be a bright pu. I have this maple neckthrough Charvel that is too high/bright sounding to my ears and I really want to find something to bring it down a little but with guts for a crunch sound too...

George Lynch has never had anything close to resembling a bass heavy tone.

Engel, the Dean I put it into is a very bright guitar. I think the Demon is great in it. I think the sound you're looking for is in that, or a Custom.

Hey!!!You are talking to a huge Lynch fan here! And off course I know that... maybe I didn't made myself clear... I was trying to say that, IF maple makes one bright instrument, MAYBE the pick up would compensate for that instead of pushing it even harder. Because my guitar did not work with a JB. It did go over limit. All I've got was an undefined, high buzzing tone where you could not get any articulation on the upper register and no punch at all!! And it is a neckthrough!!!

What I did then was swap a Dimarzio Norton (not the Air...) in it to see what would happen since it is a 43 gauge wired p.u. with pronounced bass and somewhat mutted highs (yeah... not a good one). Then this guitars became better... but it lacks pinch hamonics... that little extra... you know...

So you are saying that the Screamin Demon is actually a trebly choice?

Helldog! So the Dean is bright too? I would like to open up this guitar a little but as you can see above, the JB was bad... as was a Bill Lawrence, and the Norton is quot;okquot;... I would like it to get a fuller sound. It just doesn't sound as a neckthrough!! I'll give the Screamin a try then!!! The Custom is definitely an option too!

Regards!

Cool, let me know what you think. The Custom and the Demon are to of my favorites. Good Luck.

I put the demon in my ESP LTD MH-400, mahogany/maple top, maple/rosewood, set neck and I push it to hell with a pedal. My pup search is over, guys. Crisp, crrrunchy, metallic and deep PAFish tone. My favourite.

Just posted a realted response earlier...I really think the tone masters have went to midium output pups through mega gain amps. You can go hot pup cool ampo, or cool pup hot amp, but not both for the best tones. I think the pup being mellow does more justice to the tone of the guitar, from what I can tell.

The sound clips don't sound too bright. I'm interested in this thread as I almost installed a Demon into a shred guitar for client. What we found attractive about the Demon was it's reputation for low end tightness and articulation. We thought that would be useful for shredding. We couldn't get the color he wanted in timely fashion, so we went with a Pearly Gates instead, with great results. The PG has enough gain and it sure does nice harmonics. How does the Demon compare to the 59 tonewise?

Not a Duncan, but the Tone Zone works in a maple guitar, or overly bright guitar, if you want high output.

Hey Helldogg, I am using your thread man... don't take it bad!

I have considered the TZ for this purpose... yesterday I was messing again with the Charvel, and it has a Dimarzio Norton as I said before wich is a bassy pu. You know what? The guitar lacks mids overall... With the Norton the highs backed off ok but that is only part of the problem... I am thinking about putting its original mid-boost active circuit back in!

I´ve had it for a while with a JB and the guitar was cool... but I insisted in ripping it off and going for a straight passive set-up... that was when the nightmare began...

CC is also great if you want a higher output pickup in a really bright guitar

Demon and Jazz = shred to hell
everything is there man ...

If the guitar lacks mid then change the guitar or you'll never stop changing pickups ... just my experience .

I had a chance a year ago when a buddy bought it from me but I regreted and we canceled the deal... there is some emotion involved with this one...

What about a set of emg's maybe??? I am going to put the mid-boost circuit back anyway and see what happens...
