hey,

i was thinking about changing the bridge pick up of my guitar...
i have a H/S/S strat type washburn lyon, the neck and fretboard are maple, but i am not sure about the body, but the guitar sounds pretty bright.

now i feell the bridge pick up ( a humbucker) is weak and doesnt sound very clear when using distortion, its very muddy as well..now, my bridge pick up has no tone control, the tone control affects only the mid and neck pu's,
and i read somewhere on the internet that the volume and tone pots affect the sound of the pick up, well i am not sure about the pots but i think they're 250 K.

i am looking for a pick up that gives me great distortion as well as clarity, and sound nice when playing clean,
anyone?

The Custom will do that.

thanks,
by Custom , u mean the Custom 5? or Duncan Custom?

anyone elsegt;?

Did you try raising it closer to the strings and/or raising the pole pieces?

yeah i tried raising it closer to the strings, but didnt try to raise the pole pieces..i have the humbucker tilted, with the side closer to the bridge lower..thats the best sound i could get out of it...does raising the pole pieces help?

Hey Ras, adjusting the poles can have a really noticeable effect...for instance, I use a pair of dimarzios iwth allen screws in my test axe these days. I radius the poles to the strings. Tried this with a Breed neck PU and the bass was humongous, so I dropped the A string poles flush and the E string below, tamed the bass.

ON the FRED I had radiused just one line of poles at first like a regular slugcoil PU...sounded kinda harsh so I set all the poles the same..much better.

So, yeah, try playing with the poles, a cheap amp; easy fix.

IMHO to balance with singles a Custom might be overkill, I'd try a PAF-style bucker - '59 or in Dimarzioland the PAF or PAF Pro. I like the Fred which is a PAF Pro with more mids. You might try the Duncan Demon but it's already bright, if your guitar is bright a demon might be a problem especially with no tone pot! (but a 250K tone pot is probably a good match for a demon, worth a try - let us know...)

I did mean the regular Custom. Like Dave said, it is pretty high output, but it splits well, and has a lot of versatility.

i am not planning on splitting the humbucker..

does any one know how to raise the pole pieces of a humbucker?

buy an SH-5, make your electric scheme in a Delta Tone, and kick some a**!

whats a delta tone?

Deltatone is Fender's set of pickups in the AmStd strat amp; Tele, the main thing is, the tone ctrl is out of the circuit at '10' (infinite resistance)
