We have a lot of die-hard vintage strat lovers around the forum. And there is good reason for that. A vintage strat is a great ax no question.

some may like to stray once in awhile or all the time with a stratocaster. Perhaps a wolf strat in sheep strat clothing. he he he.

Who plays a strat SSS that is not vintage sounding? How do you have it set up and what color is it.

Not what does Iron Maiden play.
What do you play?

My strat with APS's is and isn't vintage sounding. Clean, and dirty I can get some very very vintage tone from positions1-3. But in 4, and 5 I get a more modern sound due to the flat polepieces and close proximity of my bridge pup. I've got a fairly low action (not as low as my tele's) the microtilt tweaked so I still have a good ball end angle. I find by rolling back my bridge tone control and leaving the neck/middle tone control in the normal area it gives a much thicker more modern sound. I'm also using a .022 orange drop, CTS pots and a switchcraft switch.

Thanks again from Hazard County.
What color is it? Does have the General Lee Design motif: confed flag?
Does Sweet Home Alabama sound sweet on it?

black knobs not knows DOH!!!!

Does the vintage strat guy's blood begin to boil when they see threads like this? If they caught me in the local bar would they drag me outside for a talk.
meh, i got a strat as vintage as it gets. It's hard for me to make it sound un-bluesy or non-quacky and i like that. 3 surfers, vintage trem, 21 fret neck, maple fretboard, V neck, the works. I get a kick out of flipping on that neck pickup and ripping up bends in the upper register-never fattens out since the resonant peak is so high. If i ever need to play anything more modern sounding, i flip the bridge pickup on and dime my TS9 through my blonde bandmaster with its volume at around 5 or 6.

my squire strat isnt very vintage its not very anything for that matter.

Not S/S/S but it is mine, and I think it's great.
This one is S/S/S, and doesn't sound or look vintage... It's er a squier... :/

Strat's just fit me, whether S/S/S, H/H, H/S/H H/S/S or whatever... all the guitars I own are variations on a strat, and 90% of the guitars I like are strats or variations of.

Strats rock \m/

i have a malmsteen strat with rosewood board. With the stock dimarzios it's not a t all vintage sounding but it sound has a lot of malmsteen in it. It's totally 80s and cool as hell. But it's in vintage wight finish with the aged white pickguard(it'll stay stock as long a s i own it). The action is a s low as possible and it can handle any kind of metal and shredding quite well.

this is my only S/S/S strat, the rest have full size hums in them...and this isn't technically a S/S/S since it has 3 hotrails in it...
you don't get much wilder and far from vintage than that.

I have a couple of Strats with humbuckers. One (red) with one 59 Trembucker and one (black) with a 59 Trembucker and Pearly Gates neck pickup.

The only Strat I have with three vintage singles coils is my sunburst '63 that I've owned for about 30 years. It's pretty much stock except for adding a 5 way switch and moving the second tone control to the bridge pickup. I have the original 3 way switch though in case I sell it some day...when I'm 80 or so!

My other Strats all have alnico 5 vintage type neck and middle pickups (Duncan Surfers in two and Fralin Vintage Hots in one) with a hotter bridge pickup than vintage.

I need to redo my signature because I sold the guitar with three Surfers...though the bridge Surfer was almost 10K.

In the guitars with Surfer neck and middle I have a 10K Antiquity Texas Hot in one, a Custom Shop Alnico 2 Tapped Tele Hot that MJ wound for me in the other.

In the guitar with Fralin Vintage Hot neck and middle pickups I use a Fralin Steel Pole 43 for the bridge pickup.

I rarely play my '63. I like the Surfers and a hotter bridge pickup better than my old pickups in the '63.

I would say, that counts. I've always considered the SSS, HSH, HSS monikers to refer to configuration, moreso than electrical specs.

My '90 Strat Plus. Perfect for Floyd!
