PRS uses 'specially voiced seymour duncan pickupsquot; for their McCarty Soapbar. Does anyone happen to know which SD pu both the neck and bridge resemble. I just got a PRS Soapbar and love the bridge pu but the neck is little too fat , I would like more mids and a more focused bass.
My advice would be to measure the resistance of the SD that is in the neck right now and get something that is wound a fair bit less hot, and preferably something with an A5 mag. A2 magnets are usually a bit fuzzier and warmer with A5 being more on the clear side, and P-90s tend to get looser and less focussed with more windings on the coil. Depending on how hot your current pickup is, I recommend the SD Vintage Soapbar Neck Model.
congrats on the new PRS soapy ... try lowering the pup height some?
I found an old post by Scott where he said PRS uses a vintage p-90 neck in the neck position and a Custom neck p-90 in the bridge position. I have looked over my options and decided on a Hot p-90 neck pu for the neck position. Now I figure I have a 50-50 chance of the wind/polarity being correct so that the middle position is hum cancelling.
For fun I may just throw in some ceramic magnets in the stock pu for comparison.
