Hi
I'm new to the board, but wanted to try and post and see what results I might get. I'm not new to playing guitar, and just got back into it. I recently just bought an Ibanez online as I had one just like it before (almost exactly I think) and I loved the neck on this guitar. Well, this new guitar has a weird trem it seems for an Ibanez. The one I had was the Ibanez model 470 I think, and this one is a model 450. Both of them are made in Japan and the last one that I had I loved the neck on it. It had a terrible trem though called a TRS2 I think it was. Well, this model 450 I've not received yet, but I asked the guy that I bought it off of online if it said quot;TRSquot; on the side, and he said it only says quot;Patent under floyd rosequot; on it. Does anyone know what model of Floyd it could be? Just curious. Also, would it be possible to change it out to a real floyd rose? If so, where is a good place to buy one online? What's invovled? I don't want too much work. :-). If it ends up being too much work I'll block it.
On the last guitar I just blocked the trem with a piece of really hard ash and it worked great. The guitar sounded better, etc. Then I installed a distortion pickup and I drilled out the holes for mounting and used some really nice screws and mounted the pickup direclty to the body. What a difference it made! Well, I loved the pickup, but it was a tad to bright for me. Not much, but just a tad. I'm wondering what Duncan makes that's got the same output with just less treble in the eq? I'm going to do the same again! Mount it directly to the body. I typically only use the bridge pickup. I play stuff from Racer X to Jimi Hendrix. I'm wanting though to get more into some of my 80's stuff, like Racer X, etc, and that neck is the best for fast shred type stuff. What about the Duncan Invader? I'm afraid it will be too dark though? I want something that still has the bite that the Distortion pickup has. I've thought about Dimarzio's too as I've had a Distortion from them before, but it was too dark I thought. I also had a Dimarzio Tone Zone and it too was too dark, but I loved the harmonics. I'm thinking I must need something with more mids and less bass and treble, but not too little bass. Just a tad maybe?
Thanks from Indianapolis!
Tim
Welcome my friend, maybe the trem on the ibanez is a TRS the normal type, in a few words they suck! and they give you to much trouble, stay away from them... you can change them for the OFR with no trouble... or if you preffer you can block it....like you said you did with the other guitar you had or have... anyways i also have an ibanez but with a cheaper trem a LT1 the best piece of crap ever made and when i mean best is the worst sh!t ever made.... it doesnt stay in tune and it doesnt it dont last like others do... so i blocked it, but when i blocked it i had never use the trem bar, until last nite which i risk myself using it, but the bastard work allright, it didnt got out of tune the whole evening... but tell me how did you block your trem?

Hi JJ,
I blocked the trem by taking a piece of hard ash wood and sticking it in the back of the guitar where the trem block is, and tighting the screws for the springs until it rested agaisnt the wood.. Then I used the bar to loosen the block against the wood, and put a couple drops of glue and then let the bar go and it glued the wood against the trem block. Then I took another piece of wood and stuck it on the other side of the trem block.. This way the wood is on both sides of the trem block.. and sound is able to travel in theory at least.. I think it works to be honest.. It seemed I got a lot of bass back in the eq and a lot of sustain and harmonics.. I also though took some wood and put it on the bottom of the pickup mounting holes and rested the pickups agaisnt the same wood.. Then using screws which were bigger, I drilled out the mounting holes on the pickups and screwed the bridge pickup into the bottom of the wood of the hole that came with the guitar for mounting the pickup. This way, the pickup has a screw that goes directly into the wood, plus is resting on wood that is in turn resting on the bottom of the pickup hole .. Again, in theory this helps with sustain, harmonics, and also seems to quiet down the pickups with noise, etc.. I think it works.. So does EVH and many others! Direct mounting of pickups works.. I don't care what anyone says.. I've played guitar for over 28 years and it works! hehehe.. I know there are those that will disagree.. The only exception might be Active pickups, but I don't think you can direct mount EMG's for example as they don't have the same mounting holes, but have those tabs, or something.. I can't remember off the top of my head..

Hi JJ,
How do you know it's a TRS? I thought all the TRS trems on Ibanez's have TRS written on them? I don't know, but I was told this? Anyone else?
Thanks so much.. How can one tell which Ibanez Trem you have?
