I am about to swap out super distortion/PAF pro combo in my gibson les paul standard. This guitar in particular is tuned to Drop C, and The amp I run thru is a mesa boogie dual rectifier (chunky sounds). I like the DD better than the super distortion, and the PAF pro was quot;okquot;, I had to raise it up fairly high to get the sensitivity where I liked it to match the super distortion, but at that height- the bass was a bit powerful (defenitely no playing of the low string). The PAF pro had a decent semi buttery kind of sound on higher strings that was alright... but I kind of wish i could have something that i didnt have to raise amazingly high/get really bassy to match a high output bridge. I use the neck position a lot, so i like it to sound sweet, buttery and be somewhat sensitive... warmth is vital.Theres something about dimarzio sound I cannot get past. I need duncans.
with that being said, I adore slash's tone. (not trying to match it with my recto, I just think his neck pickup tone is pretty). Any forseeable problems with getting an AP2n to match a DD in the bridge? I have a DD/Jazz combo in a schecter that I like, but wish the neck had a little more bass and sensitivity (the jazz is also set fairly high, but so is the DD... the DD sounds so meaty when up high). how might the AP2 compare to the Jazz sensitivity-wise? with all of this information, Any input on a pearly gates being put in the neck instead of the AP2?
advice greatly appreciated
Both are good choices in a LP, though I've never used drop tunings with either of them. The Pearly is a bit brigter and louder than the APH, so it might balance better with the DD.
is a PGn still capable of sounding fairly pretty during a high gain solo type of thing? One of my major reservations is the supposed midrange emphasis.
Don't be afraid of the PGn...it's one of the best neck humbuckers on the planet. It's the bridge version that some players say is a little bright, although I think some of those guys are thinking of the alnico 5 PG Plus in the Fender Lonestar Strat...that's a diferant pickup than the standard alnico 2 PGb.
But if you KNOW you love Slash's tone it seems a no-brainer to go with the AIIPro neck humbucker.

interesting
I love slash's tone , but i suppose the whole output to match the DD seems of a bigger priority now as well. Does anyone know if the PGn is signifigantly louder than the AP2, and also how much louder than the jazzn?
