ok, let's see if I have this right...
my guitar has a three position switch..both pups in there now are four conductor...
when I put the switch in the middle position I get the inner coils of both pickups workign in tandem to get that 'fender' type single coil twang
let's say I replace the bridge with a four conductor and the neck with a braided ( I guess that would be two conductor?? not sure what it's called) pickup that's NOT four conductor
I should still be able to still get the bridge pickup wired so that it can be coil tapped, working by itself right? which will REALLY give that fender type of twang for cleans...
and the first and third positions on the switch would work as usual..
is this correct?
First off, you are referring to coil splitting, not coil tapping.
Anyhoo#8230; I#8217;m assuming we are talking about a fender style blade switch? Coil splitting can#8217;t be done with a toggle 3 way to my knowledge (unless you are using a push pull pot). I need to dig up a diagram of a Fender 3 way blade switch to see which contacts are active in certain positions to see how that works with a 2 conductor neck pickup. Or maybe Artie will chime in, he seems to have this stuff memorized.
edit: Should have been a little more clear#8230; what you want to do is certainly possible, I#8217;m just not sure if it#8217;s possible without buying a new part or two.
If its a standard Fender-style 3-way, this should do it:
This will give you the bridge split when in the quot;bridge-onlyquot; position.
