There's no reason to be afaid of a strat. It won't hurt you.

I knew that strats existed back when I was a metal guy. But, they weren't even under consideration for consideration. I had no use for them.

But, now that I've had one for a few months. I like it. Unless it has higher output SC sized HB's in it, it'll be no good for metal but I think the strat would grow on you...I you gave it a chance. The strat was good enough for Jimi. Put some JB jr's in and you can do Iron Maiden.

TRy a strat, it'll put your artistic mettle to the test.

I just installed a JB-jr in the bridge, a Duckbucker in the mid, and a Li'l '59 in the neck of my American Strat...WOW, what a sound!

I have a alnico pro II flat on the neck, thinking of adding a lil 59 on the bridge soon ... but I have no idea what to put in the middle

IMHO, The Surfers are the best. Tone to the Bone.

Actually, you'd put Hot Rails in too...I just ordered two Antiquity Texas Hots and a '59 for my Strat.

Actually, you could put both in for modern Maiden.

Gers uses the JB Jr.
Murray uses the HR and sometimes the JB Jr, I think?

Or a super dist in the bridge for Smithy.

Yeah... I wanted to say you'd also put the HRs in...

I think it's HR Neck, JBjr Bridge...

A set of surfers,
A set of fralins (blues bridge, vintage hot middle and %3 underwound vintage hot neck),
A set of van zandts (blues bridge, vintage neck and middle).

Don't tell anyone, but I'm going all DiMarzio in my Strat. I have an FS-1 in the bridge that I love, and I just got an as-new Blue Velvet on ebay that's going in the neck. Looking out for another bargain Blue Velvet for the middle.
On a quick side note: One of these days I'll have a genuine MIA Fender Strat. That guitar will get the setup that Lew talks about in the quot;Ultimate Stratquot; thread. (Surfers and whatever the bridge du jour is.)

My Strat-o-clone is in transition, but I'm pretty happy with its current setup:

Cool Rails bridge
SSL-6 (tapped) middle
Lil 59 neck

I can get a nice jazzy/bluesy tone out of the neck, a twangy, yet smooth tone out of the CR, and the SSL-6 combines beautifully with either notch position to get classic Strat. Tapped and untapped are two different sounds, providing a pretty versatile axe.

I have the first three postions of the 5-way wired as a 3-way, so I can get:

neck
neck and bridge
bridge

Then I use an on-off-on DPDT switch to add in the SSL-6, tapped or not, at any time.

I own about 6 strats so off of memory..
Surfers
Texas Hots
Twangbanger
APS2s
SSL1s
Fender Fat 50s
Fralin SP43
Fullsized Scremon Demon
PGB/Custom Hybrid

Strat 1
(n) - DiMz Virt Vintage Blues
(m) - DiMz Virt Vintage 2.2
(b) - DiMz Super Distortion

Strat 2
(b) - EMG 85

mine are listed in my sig below

I have APS1's in the neck and middle, and an APS2 in the bridge.

For the metal guys who think a strat won't cut it, Singles are different, but with the right ones you can get some very unholy tones. My APS' do best with heavy OD/Dist. The bridge could use a few more winds...kinda like a twangbanger. Woah a twangbanger for metal.....how unholy!

I have a MIM Strat equipped with Hot Rails Bridge and Neck; the middle is disconnected. It's pretty and super slick to play.

If you want to play metal on a strat I'd get a fat strat so you have a full sive humbucker. In my fat strat I use CR neck, fender custom shop texas special mid, and JB in the bridge. My five way selector switch is wired:

1 position: mid
2 position: mid and neck
3 position: neck
4 position: neck and bridge
5 position: bridge

I also added push pull pots to split the CR and JB. It sounds awsome. I also installed the fender out of phase with the CR.
