Hi guys, I’m would like to change two humbackers in my Carvin DC400.
The specs: it’s a neckthrough maple with ebony freeboard and mahogany sides.
I love how this guitar sounds without plugging it to the amp.
The distortion sound, is very tractorish and bassy. Notes are fuzzy and messy in comparison to the Ibanez RG2550EX with the Evolution in the bridge.
I’m looking for a very readable full distortion and a nice, wide and rich acoustic.
This guitar will be used in a doom/metal band with tons of acoustic and mellow leads.
The sounds I like
My Dying Bride - Light At The End Of The World
Septic Flesh - Sumerian Daemons
Benediction - Transcend The Rubicon (1993) (different sound from above bands but I still like them )
Looking forward for any suggestions
Thanks for all the help

P.S. I was ready to send it back to the shop but the quality of the guitar - amazing. So, I’ve decided to change the pickups.
welcome the forum!!if you have a high gain amp that will give you the bottom you need, i might suggest a jazz neck and custom bridge. very articulate
Thanks for the suggestion.
I would like to hear more options.

You might also consider a Custom Custom in the bridge and a Jazz or Full Shred in the neck. ( also a lot of heavy/shreddy players use a JB in the neck, I did that for a freind of mine and it works great) . chris
a full shred set would actually be a cool setup for what you are looking for as well
As far as for the wiring goes of the new pickups instead of C22b c22n (carvin's pickups) should I read some instruction or it should be pretty simple as:
1) Take out old passive hum ( I did it already )
2) Solder a new one instead of the old one by following the same schematics (red black green white) from : localhost/not that good in electronics but I can solder some stuff (at least my wires for fencing equipment)
So, I’ve change a bridge pickup to Sh-4. Instead of Custom, because the local shop did no have Custom in stock and I did not wish to wait another 3-4 days.
I’m kind of exited.
The ugly tractorish sound disappeared. Carvin DOES NOT SOUND BRIGHT as I was told it will sound due to the maple neckthrough. It sounds very thick in mids and slightly bassy. The Evolution is brighter and has more output to my ears. I like them both but JB suits me better.
I still need to change neck pickup. Should I still go with Jazz?
Thanks

and here is the result. SH-4 was changed to SH-6 I'm happy so far.
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THE HELP.
